Super Sunday, because it was unusually good, so shouldn't be used as the basis for an argument that moving a show there would do it good.

Remember that this was one of, I think, four episodes on that year - so of course would do particularly well for that show - in addition to the fact that it was building up to the popular David Tennant's exit.

That doesn't mean that moving the show there permanently would do it good. In fact, I think the moving of various shows to other days in the schedule has done them much harm - especially if it were moved back a year later because it hadn't done well. To me, Doctor Who is a Saturday evening programme. I agree that it should really be in a fixed slot - but then again, viewers know that it is on on Saturday evenings, and within the same sort of two hour slot.

Slightly off topic, but has any recent TV or radio interviews with David Tennant refered to him becoming a father?

I know the guy likes his privacy, but bearing in mind there's been at least one picture (in the Daily Heil, I think?) of him struggling with a pram, I would've thought the interviewer would've brought it up?

I've only seen the Graham Norton & Breakfast recent interviews & it seems strange there's been no mention.

(Over zealous publicist/agent maybe?)

Did anybody else notice the totally unnatural moment when Rory referred to a bottle of "gasoline"? What English person would ever look at a petrol can and call it "gasoline"? The co-production with BBC America should not have been allowed to influence the script like this. Rory should have said "petrol" and if necessary, the bottle itself could have had a sticker on it saying "gasoline".

Yes.

Reminds me of Scottish Actor Craig Ferguson on US TV saying the word "scones" - pronouncing it "sc oh nes" rather than the Scottish "sc on es".

It may be another "trivial matter", but it angries up my blood.

It makes me cross too because it's so badly thought out. If they had to use the word gasoline, the American guy could have said "here, I brought you some gasoline" or something. It's just sloppy to have Rory say it.

saw a similar thing on the cbeebies programme small potatoes, in the song about the seasons they called autumn fall Mad

just because BBC American has a hand in does not mean we should be putting US lingo into the scripts, especially on children's programmes like small potatoes, BBC Wales don't slip the odd Welsh word in do they

I don't recall Sesame street putting British words into the script so the UK kids know what oatmeal is

anyway off topic but you are right it's annoying , imagine if we had Indian actors use British words in the script of a programme originally made for an indian audience just so 'us Brits' could understand it

Is "small potatoes" a programme name, or are you being colourful?

no it's a programme name but unless you have pre schoolers in your life you're not likely to see it Wink

Embarassed You're right. I hadn't thought of that. He should've said "petroleum" (petrol is the short form, like gas for gasoline).

So what did people think of last night's episode? Certainly seemed to be creating quite a few plot lines, which will presumably re-appear later in the series.

I thought it was excellent - especially that set up at the beginning, and then the orphanage parts. I'm still a little confused as to how the Doctor et al's situation degenerated to the point where they were running from or were imprisoned by the FBI - but I accept that as something for me to imagine and as being necessary to moving the story on. Still a clever resolve, brilliant 'monster' and a nice continuation of some older story arcs - namely the Silence, River Song and the Silence's Tardis/spaceship. I'm really looking forward to how things continue - as you say, Charlie, there's a fair few plot points to be explored!
