Compared to previous (recent) series this penultimate episode featured the Doctor in fewer scenes, which is presumably how they managed not to have a (noticeable) 'Doctor-lite' episode.

Considering Series 5 didn't have a Christmas special at the front of it - The End of Time was filmed well before filming on Series 5 got underway - there was no need for a Doctor-lite episode, much like Series 1 didn't need one in 2005. That did have Boom Town though which wasn't Doctor-lite but for saving-on-budget reasons, and The Lodger was probably the 2010 version of this.

Exactly, Series 6 will probably revert back to the lite episode format, whereas this series' filming schedule didn't need it.

When did Matt Smith film his bit of 'The End Of Time' then? At the same session as David Tennant then take a break until Series 5 filming started, or was it tagged onto the filming of 'The Eleventh Hour' or another episode?

Tennant walked off set, Smith walked on set... literally.

So what did people think of episode 12?

I've noticed that this series the pre-titles scene(s) have got longer than under RTD, this episode it was over 7 minutes in before the titles. The use of the Daleks, Cybermen, and other 'enemies' is interesting, as it wasn't a predictable scenario, and I personally didn't know what was going to happen. I noticed it too, as before it was a quick scene, but now they seem to drag on pre-titles. Also, why do they always call the Raxacorigalfallapatorians 'Slitheen'? I know they were a family of such aliens in Series One, but why are they always the ones referred too?

Might be because it's a bit of a "comedy" name - and they're fairly "comedy" aliens, too, which might be why they weren't present on screen. Can anyone remember if the Weevils were shown onscreen in the episode, cos they were on set as shown in Confidential, but I don't remember spotting them - bit scary/unrecognisable for kids?

I think I spotted the fish-head bloke from the Torchwood S2 opener in there too.

Did you miss the plot? The Judoon - as the 'police force' of the Shadow Proclamation - are quite understandably part of the forged alliance. It was the belief of the alliance that the Doctor was to be the cause of this end of the universe scenario, so all races - friends as well as foe of the Doctor and for that matter each other - came together to create the Pandorica.
