Indeed. This image springs to mind:

So glad I wasn't the only person to think that!
I thought the same.
Me too... Think it was intentional - particularly given the retro TVs used elsewhere and the 50s street party feel in other bits of the episode.

Wonderful use of graphics of many kinds in the episode, I'll say no more.

Actually I rather enjoyed the episode, Matt & Karen in particular were excellent, not as good as last week but enjoyable none-the-less. Next weeks looks a belter though

The "Dum-de-dums" were certainly louder this week, that's probably because someone from the production team saw all the comments about it over on GB & tweaked it a bit
Notice the lightning sound effects during the theme tune tonight were toned down a bit compared with last week's - especially as Matt Smith's name appears. Personally, I preferred the full louder effects from last week. Did anyone else notice?

Yeah I actually preferred the lightning effects being louder myself. You're never going to please everyone, so you shouldn't listen to anyone really

Funny thing is that on here, people who watch the show seem to have taken to the new titles better & like the lightning sound effects. However over on GB there are several on there who keep insisting that the music doesn't resemble the Who theme for the first 15 seconds and that the lighting sound effects are terrible.
Oh well, as you say you can't please everyone

Yeah I've noticed the negative response on GB. I think perhaps their major problem is that Delia Derbyshires timeless original bassline and other effects are almost completely gone in this new version, plus the composer Murray Gold has actually DARED to add the beginning 15 seconds as you say. Which is totally original. The fans just don't like change and they were rather spoiled by Murrays first theme, which was basically just a remixed version of the Delia Derbyshire version, with some extra bits of harmony here and there. Had the interweb been around in the early 80s when the new completely synthesised theme was introduced, i'm sure the backlash would have been just as bad. Though it's a very fondly remembered rendition now.
Personally I like the new theme.

I like the new theme as well, a few of us on there (littlesmegger included) have pointed out that the bass line is still there but there's just a few extra orchestral sounds added over the top, however there's a handful that are insistant that the beginning part is a completely different theme & that we're wrong, oh well

No there not there now, the theme points more towards the Howell version than the Derbyshire version (well it does to me anyway)
I must admit I can't actually hear any of Delias original recordings in it. Though the arrangement is the same, I can't actually hear any of the original Delia recordings in the theme other than the scream. Are they definitely there?

I don't know how, but I think the new theme's growing on me, slowly. It did sound a little different when I watched the BBC3 repeat just now (having previously heard it in 5.1 on BBC HD).
Also, was that the first time they've used an horizontal wipe on Doctor Who, near the end?
