I am not totally against Doctor Who, as I would watch it now and again, but Ant and Dec provide fun, laughs, and entertainment, whereas Doctor Who is just a remake of an old sci-fi drama.

I opted to watch Ant and Dec on Saturday night and was pleased with the programme Smile Not only having the advertised David Beckham and Mariah Carey but they also had Sir Trevor Mcdonald, Robin Gibb, Kim Wilde and more bizarrley Jonathon Ross. Which makes me wonder whether Jonathon Ross is contracted to the BBC or not? Where surely they would've have prevented him from appearing on the opposite side at a crucial point?

Ant vs Dec was also great this week (featuring G4) and had Simon Cowell on the phone. To top David Beckham appearing this week Tony Blair is on next week's programme.

This series of Takeaway doesn't seem as good as previous ones possibly due to some of the items becoming stale - but I think last night's episode was the best of this series so far! It also lasted longer at 70 minutes!

I watched Doctor Who tonight (without all the technical problems) and it was a good watch. The only disappointing thing for me was some of the cgi used. That molten face was poorly executed and annoyed me because a lot of effort had gone into the rest of the programme.

I think both ITV and BBC will be pleased with the ratings but im sure the BBC would've hoped/expected higher ratings that they actually got - especially when you consider the amount of money spent on the series and another huge amount on promoting the series on tv, in press and on billboards!

Well done to Dr Who for beating Takeaway, Dr Who was brilliant and they deserve to get higher ratings.

Meaow. Laughing

I know im normally ITV biased but in this instance the BBC was better so deserved to win. Very Happy

I agree, and i also agree that you rarely praise the BBC over ITV. Very Happy

Because I only watch Neighbours (sometimes) and Holby City on BBC.

Did you actually watch it to be able to say that?

It's effectively a brand new version of an old programme - which is not the same as a remake.

it's not actually a re-make though. It's a continuation. If it were a re-make, we'd be having an old man hiding in a junk yard and 2 teachers follow his granddaughter into the police box.

i think by the end of this run, they'll drop a lot - this series is pretty lame. billy piper removes any ounce of credibility it once had

Yeah, Billie Piper's acting was terrible, I was completely unconvinced by her acting during the mannequin scene at the begining, that was terrible, that had the potential to be great and was ruined by her. Though, she wasn't AS bad as the show went on, still bad though. To be honest I think The Doc was the only one played with 100% effort, none of the others seemed that bothered. I think the boyfriend and that guy (the one who set up the website about Doctor Who that Billies character found, can't remember his name) were OK, about 70-90% effort put into them.

Ratings will almost certainly drop next week, most shows rarely go above or get the same kind as their first show, some probably do... I just don't think this will.

I honestly think it has the potential to be great, but the acting needs to seriously improved by Piper next episode, that's the only bad thing about it.

Two points, you name me one Doctor's assistant that could actually act?

Secondly I think Strictly Come Dancing not only overtook Takeaway but continued to increase its audience week on week. I can see Doctor Who get's a 9-10 million average and think ITV now have a battle on their hands for a decent Saturday night rating.

This is the kind of boost British TV needs, especially on a Saturday night.

Sophie Aldred as Ace? She was good in Remembrance of the Daleks.....

Although Sophie Aldred is a nice person, in Doctor Who she couldn't act at all! In my opinion at least

I watched Ant and Dec - and there ratings held out. They didn't win - but the rating have hovered around the 7-8m mark all series.

The interesting thing is how many people watch Dr Who next week!

Bookies won't be happy either - Ant and Dec were favourites to win the ratings battle! I was thinking yesterday this must be the highest profile ratings battle since...

... well last Autumn with The X Factor and Strictly Come Dancing!

That story did have two particularly funny memorable quotes from the Doctor teasing the Daleks and Davros:

'Oi, Dalek! It's me, the Doctor! What's the matter, don't you recognise your mortal enemy?'

Davros- (Ranting) WE SHALL BECOME ALL POWER...

The Doctor- (Shouting, finishes rant). ...OWERFUL! CRUSH THE LESSER RACES! CONQUER THE GALAXY! UNIMAGINABLE POWER! UNLIMITED RICE PUDDING ! ! ! ET CETERA. ! ! ! ET CETERA.! ! !

First episode of that story was broadcast on my eleventh birthday.....
