I dunno, the Bernard Lodge titles that Tom Baker had fitted the music better than any of the previous title sequences. Having said that even though those titles are associated with Tom, they were a reworked version of the ones used in Pertwee's final season and they were more creepy but didn't feature the TARDIS and so in a way aren't as iconic.
These new titles are certainly an improvement on Colin Baker's later one and on McCOY's which would have been good had it not been for that awful logo at the end.
The new titles suit the new music and the logo fits it perfectly.

visually they look a lot better than the classics

according to my DR WHO: THE SEVENTIES book, it was a plastic tesco bag, a bit of water and some movement.

No it's a straight start for the 9th doctor with no mention of Paul McGanns death. Although Eccleston does look in the mirror in one scene and says "Hmm could of been worse" so that suggests he recently re-generated, or hasn't looked in the mirror in ages.
From the looks of it, i'm guessing that McGanns doctor will die in the Doctor Who audios which has been the main 8th doctors media platform. Or maybe we might see a flashback in the series where he dies, although i doubt it.

according to the official rumour mill, what will happen is that there will be no mention of the doctor's regeneration until maybe episode 4 or 5, when it will form part of the storyline.
agh! beaten to it!

I remember that rumour. I also remember the rumour that Alan Davies was definitely going to be the doctor. There's a lot of them about. I'd take them with a pinch of salt. With Russell T Davies trying to bring the Doctor to a new audience, showing a Regeneration isn't really going to help.
Although as a fan it will be nice to see the continuity filled in, but i couldn't care less if it dosen't.

I think there is a flashback in about episode three where you see the regeniration sequence. Well this was the rumour when they began production.

According to bbc.co.uk/buffy, Channel Five will be showing the first series of Buffy The Vampire Slayer from this Saturday night at 6.40pm - seemingly directly in competition with our Doctor.
