BTW, Andrew, What codec does your clip(s) need? I've got DivX 5.2.1 and had no problems. I'm thinking the problem is that not everyone has the required codec?

As I commented in my previous post (and there's a clue in the filename Wink ) xvid - (not divx which may work but can also give all sorts of problems with xvid) - is required to play the file. I would have encoded in Real format, but don't currently have a version of Producer installed. However, Bail's clip is excellent.

Disappointingly though, he didn't use the special frontcap -- mind you that's been pretty sometimeish all series.

I get the feeling everyone else probably already knows about this, but what special frontcap?

Good to see BBC Wales being proud of their production - Wales have always been good at flag-waving (hence their special idents when Wales are playing an international, etc). Scotland always seem to be on auto-pilot, and simply reading what network give them.

It would be nice if BBC Scotland would do some sort of "Scotland's own David Tennant" or something decidedly less cheesy for the next series.

Well I don't believe BBC Scotland exists. I mean they don't really run a BBC2 service and the BBC1 announcers sound almost comatose.

Mind you the real test of course is that there don't seem to be any BBC Scotland peeps on here, unlike the other three.

The frontcap is played before BBC Wales programmes on the network.

With reference to the final moments when Rose had consumed the entire time vortex:

(Please will someone correct me if I'm wrong as this is only my interpretation):

She had consumed the time vortex and could see all that was, all that is and all there ever could be. Therefore she had the ability to wipe out the daleks from the time vortex making them non existent by just thinking it. Also she realised she was the Bad Wolf by the placing of the words on a playground back home. Therefore she realised that Bad Wolf wasn't a being as such but her sub conscience warning her of danger and the phrase "Bad Wolf" was like a red danger light. That is why the words appeared throughout the series. She had the ability without realising, to place these words in tricky situations to keep her close to the doctor.

With reference to the doctors regeneration. Isn't this the first time the doctor regenerated without actually being dead? The time vortex had technically finished him off but without finally killing him. This triggered off the regeneration process prematurely. Now, I am to believe that the doctor could only die 12 times.....does this mean it is a clever twist as a means to increase his regenerations? After all, as he didn't actually die, this technically means he has an extra life.

What do others think?

Made me laugh to discover that they're replacing Doctor Who with a repeat of Only Fools and Horses! Saturday nights are going to be a barren place now! I reckon that the next Doctor Who episode will show at 7pm on Christmas Eve! (Saturday 24th December). After all with Christmas Day being a Sunday, they'll have to fit in the Eastenders Omnibus and Songs of Praise!

Viewing figures are in for last night's episode.

6.19 million viewers (42% share)

While these are overnight figures, and do not include recordings, they are a bit disappointing numbers in terms of actual number of people watching (the lowest of the series in fact I think), which is obviously down to the rather nice weather yesterday, saying that though Dr Who was the most watched programme last night, normally that honour goes to Casualty, which yesterday got 5.9 million viewers. The share of viewing for Who is very impressive though. I'd say their is a fair chance that it may break the 7 million barrier once the final figures, which take into account watched recordings within a week or so, are in.

The lesson for the production team and the BBC schedulers for next year is, start the series a couple of weeks earlier to avoid the last few episodes finding themselves being baked under the summer sun.

Only Fools And Horses? They've killed that show by repeating it too often. I think they may put Dr Who on Christmas Day - it'd be sure to pull in the crowds before the next installment of gloom and doom of EE.

Last night's Doctor who was the best piece of television I have seen for a long long time. Well produced, great soundtrack, fantastic effects and awesome acting (well apart from Mickey who has always been bloody awful). Congratulations to Russell and all his team as well as BBC Wales.... is it Christmas yet Mummy?

By the way, when Rose had the vortex going through her she sounded just like Kylie Minogue.

It was fantastic weather last night, loads of BBQs on the go. I'd like to see it running from Christmas in the winter schedule as there's too many other things going on in the spring/summer season. I guess they were taking a risk bringing it back so I can see why they didn't run it in the higher pressure autumn/winter schedule.

Unforunately, bloody football gets in the way! The FA cup round matches go out every third Saturday evening so it would cause inconsistency in the schedules. I agree though. Putting Dr Who on Saturdays in January would attract far greater viewers! They could always put the wretched football on BBC2!

I don't hate football, i just hate the fact that something that attracts 4 million viewers (it's only BIG games that attract viewers) has to dictate the schedules...after all it's not as if there's never any football on TV is it?

So, yes Doctor Who starting in January would be fantastic!

Ive a feeling they might put Doctor Who up against Coronation Street on Christmas Day. It would stand a good chance of beating them too.

So how many complaints will they get after Jack (is it Jack?) kissed the Doctor? I'd have thought quite a few for what's supposed to be a kids show.

I'm tempted to make a joke about Homophobic parents and the BBC complaints office, but I'll refrain...

Well what an episode, and what a series!

I have to admit I was a little nervous that childhood dreams (and nightmares) would be ruined with its return, but RTD deserves a slap on the back! Cleverly written, entertaining and above all, quite moving. Certainly more moving than I remember any other DW to be...
Christopher Eccleston and Billy Pipper where excellent throughout. It felt and looked much more like an engaging peice of drama, as opposed to "sci-fi".

Particually liked the "Bad Wolf" idea. And hope David Tennent can live up the role, either that or hump a Dalek...
