titles - similar to TV movie of 1996 by the look of it with the names of the stars rushing towards the cameras
theme tune - well its ok, but tbh i would have preferred either a completely new version done from scratch or again the brilliantly orchestral version from 1996
I must admit, from what I've heard (not much) it does sound ghastly! The BBC website also looks very poor, and the Dr Who logo also looks naff, bring back the old blue diamond one!

I always thought that the blue diamond logo wasn't very striking, people liked it because it was in a classic title sequence that worked. The new logo is very distinctive and I think we'll think differently about it when we see it in the new opening titles.
Also the original music was great but it wouldn't fit with the new titles it needed tweaking to make it more dramatic and punchy. The new theme sounds similar to the one for the tv movie which I liked, nice touch with the piano in there.
BBC Cmyru's Newyddion (S4C News) have broadcast the tites aas part of a report on the early screening of the programme in Cardiff.
They also had the tradis shots with the new music. Its oks not brillaint, but im mustn't judge a book by its cover.....or is that a TV series ive been waiting 16 years to see again
They've just showed another new trailer this time featuring the TARDIS!!
I have to say the BBC have been very clever about how they've promoted it. For now just enough to get people interested and whet their appetites and the new series appears to be stunning to look at.
You have to admit, for a show that was despised by the public and the BBC in 1989 when it was cancelled it really is getting a lot of publicity isn't it!? Radio 1 talk about it all the time, it's in the newspapers and on BBC Breakfast and Newsnight!

It's funny how a lot of fans slagged it off in its later years, the thing was though, they never wanted it cancelled and never believed it would be. It was more a case of tough love and wanting it to be better. This new version of Doctor Who is hopefully the one we've always wanted, i.e. decent scripts with decent production values. Imagine how good those early Tom Baker stories would have looked if they had a big budget.
Doctor Who was slagged off because it looked so cheap, they got away with it in the earlier years because the audience wasn't so sophisticated and neither were the special effects. Then when Star Wars came along with its groundbreaking effects Doctor Who looked tacky by comparison. Doctor Who's budget never increased enough to make the show look better and so the image of a cheap looking programme was just enhanced.
The cheapness wasn't what made the show charming, it was the stories and the respective Doctors; the cheapness managed to turn away large numbers of people and eventually got the show axed. It's only now as adults that we say it looked cheap but back then large numbers of viewers were enthralled and accepted it because we hadn't seen anything better.
When you listen to some of the DVD commentaries, you can tell the production team didn't think some of the effects were charming and wished they had more money and time to do the scripts justice. This is finally going to happen but I hope the die-hards won't slag it off straightaway...look what happened the last time we did!! Just think of it as a work in progress and that the next series will be better, if you do like it then good.
I've waited a longtime for a Doctor Who that looks great on screen and I don't want it to disappear for another long gap after this series ends.
