Arrow SPOILER from http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/tv_and_radio/4326005.stm : The episode - which appears to be the series' first instalment - begins with the Doctor and Rose being chased by Autons, shop mannequins that have come to life.

Quite numbing really to think of the expense and the hype, and this is what they come up with for the first episode. Having watched it, I doubt I'll go out of my way to watch any of the rest. No wonder the American networks won't touch it.

Blimey was it really that bad? Did it look like a rough cut to you like it's been suggested or the finished article?

Well I'm rather a big Doctor Who fan (Casual fan that is, not psycho fan) and I thought it was brilliant.

As i said previously in the thread, a lot of people will hate it. It is down to tastes, as was the classic series. I hated the William Hartnell seasons, thought they were rubbish, but other people think Tom Baker was an idiot and Billy Hartnell was the best person ever to play it.

It really is down to tastes whether you liked it or not, and i loved it! So did everyone at work, who are not major fans of the original show at all.

And if you're asking if i downloaded a copy, no i didn't, i just happened to be given it on DVD by someone who did.

As for the theme tune, looking at it again, it can't be the final mix. If it is, it is very bad. The visuals do not fit with the tune at all, so i very much doubt it's the final one.

It is also suggested that this leaked episode may be not be the final version that will appear on BBC1 in a few weeks. It is pointed out that the theme tune is just a slightly edited variant of the 1970s version of the theme, remixed into Dolby 5.1. The new theme is meant to be noticeably different, but not too much.

I believe the new theme was aired on Radio 1 this morning, did anyone hear it?

I don't think I've ever heard anyone call William Hartnell "Billy", but then again I'm only 33 and he was waaayyyy before my time.

How old are you exactly, Stabby?

It did look very much like the finished article. However, reading the BBC News site, it would seem there may be a few tweaks, but I would doubt the final cut would differ greatly (if it all IMHO) from what's been leaked.

The CBC in Canada has started showing trailers for Dr Who, and they include a snippet of the updated theme tune in the background.

High res version : http://www.btrproductions.org/drwho2005/cbcteaser_high.avi

Low res version : http://www.btrproductions.org/drwho2005/cbcteaser_low.avi

The BBC trailers start running tonight apparently, before or after Eastenders and then later on in the evening on both BBC1 and BBC2. They will only be a six-second teaser trailer like the Beeb have done with other shows, next week two different full promos will start running.

Is there something wrong with my computer or have these clips got no video?! (Despite the fact they're massive for the length!)

Yep! In the sense that you need to have the DivX codec installed to view them.

Turns out Chris Moyles played the new theme tune on Radio 1 this morning, link to a recording below. It is talked over for obvious reasons.
