We saw a clip of the Big Ben clock being smashed. There was a program about how they made this shot. Not computers at all, actually model shots. Something which lacks in todays science fiction. Mike Tucker who worked on the original Doctor Who was actually involved. It'll be interesting to see.

Where was this programme? Radio Times are going to do a feature on the special effects of Aliens In London as well I think.

Doctor Who confidential had a piece about it if i recall. Actually no it might of been the little introduction show before the first episode was shown. Either way they showed you the model, and it was superb.

They also showed you how they created the explosion of the shop in the first episode. Also a model actually. No CGI at all.

Now that does surprise me, i could have sworn those flames were computer generated in the shop in episode 1, same with the flames from last night...amazing stuff.

The Big Ben 'model' looks brilliant on camera - I thought it was the real thing with clever animation!!

I'm with you on that one, some of those flames were definitely computer generated.

I doubt it, just film of flames magnified a few times - just like the old tricks you'd see in early films and programmes like Stingray etc.

Just to clear up a common misconception - RE: Big Ben . . .

Well to be fair, from last night's trailer you do hear a very distinct chime as is slams into the tower and clunks the bell. Nice little touch that is often missing from such things.

I actually knew that. But I thought i'd say the more popular name as to not confuse people.

As for the explosion in the shop, it was definitely not computer generated. They showed you how they built the top of the shop as a model, filled it with gunpowder and just blew it up. Perhaps they did some extra bits on computer afterwards, but the actual explosion was definitely a model being blown up.

Nice capture there, Bail.

I've found a page with the various versions of the theme tune across the years: http://www.clivebanks.co.uk/Dr%20Who%20themes.htm.

Anyone captured the version used on Doctor Who Confidential?

There have already been hints of the Daleks return. I found it most funny last Saturday when my boy run up the stairs saying it was too scary... Laughing Somethings never change.
