Well according to the people who have seen it, Billie Piper is very good, and almost outshines the Doctor.

Overall the outlook is good, although they have said that the processed video look is awful, and the special effects are a bit naff, and the incidental music is awful. But hey who fans will moan about anything.

I have heard though that the Theme tune is the original Delia Derbyshire theme just re-mastered into 5.1 with perhaps a few minor bits added. Can't wait to hear that! Loved the Delia Theme!

Yes the theme that she reworked for the Pertwee era was easily the best, it says a lot that even with all of this new technology at our disposal nobody has been able to do anything as eerie or effective. The only version of the theme tune that was redone successfully was Peter Howell's version that debuted in Tom's final season but was more closely associated with Peter Davison. Now that was a great piece of music.

Yes the Peter Howell version was very good! Didn't like the Colin Baker version, however i did like the McCoy theme, even though most people don't tend to like that.

But nothing beats the Delia version. How she created, edited and mixed all those sounds without any electronic aid is beyond me!

I get the feeling Joe Public won't be as critical about how it looks as the Doctor Who fans. I don't know why they didn't go the whole hog and use film, they're already spending lots of money on it.

I like Sylvester's theme too and the titles but the whole effect was ruined in the last few seconds by that 'Saturday Morning kids tv' type logo!! Crying or Very sad

And the wink Wink

You're right, Joe public won't give a toss about the pitch of the Sonic Screwdriver sound effect or whatever, they'll just want a decent show, and i'm sure this won't dissapoint.

Oh yes!! How could I forget the Anne Robinson/Bill Giles 'that's it from me bye bye for now' wink!!

All I want is a show that I won't have to feel embarrassed about admitting I like, and it looks like I finally have it!! I also want to see them show the wondrous, epic quality of the TARDIS. We know that the TARDIS is bigger on the inside than the outside, but we never really got an idea of how truly big it was.

During the Pertwee era all they showed was the console room, and it was only during the later years of Tom Baker's era that we had an idea of it having all of these rooms.

I loved the idea of Castovalva being set completely in the TARDIS it gave an idea of how amazing this ship was. It irritated me that there were virtually no TARDIS interior scenes in the McCoy years!! Evil or Very Mad

I know it's the story that counts, but the TARDIS is an important part of the show that hasn't been shown as it should be, hopefully the new series will remedy that.

I have seen the episode that has been leaked to the internet and I have to say it is disticively average.

Eccleston was a bad choice of Doctor as far as I am concerned. On the other hand - BIllie Piper does a marvelous job. Effects are good, script is poor. Location wise - for those who know Cardiff CIty Centre, the concept that the episode takes place in London is completely thwarted by the fact there are Cardiff landmarks to be seen here there and everywhere. Verdict 4/10

Do you think the show will be a hit, does it need to bed down?

I was expecting more to be honest. The scripts are pretty awful, and some of the acting is average.

Well I'm one of those people that always thought they should have given it to Paul McGann. He would have made a great Doctor. Were you watching it as a confirmed Doctor Who fan like me or an interested member of the public? I get the feeling the fans might be more critical, but if you're a person that never was a big Who fan then you represent the public at large. And if they can't be won over the show is in trouble!!

I grew up with Doctor Who - not a massive fan but curious enough to want to see it. You can see for youself in a few weeks.

I'd be interested to know how or who leaked it. One would have thought a project such as this, hidden in secrecy for so long would be kept tightly under wraps until just before its aired. Normally, new programmes are given press airings a week before transmission, so how this got out so early is a mystery.

Postings on newsgroups and disscusion forums suggest that the leak came from within the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) who are showing the new Dr Who series in Canada. It was probably sourced from a preview tape they were sent.

It is also suggested that this leaked episode may be not be the final version that will appear on BBC1 in a few weeks. It is pointed out that the theme tune is just a slightly edited variant of the 1970s version of the theme, remixed into Dolby 5.1. The new theme is meant to be noticeably different, but not too much. Also, some reports say the production team were unhappy with some of the early CGI visual effects, and have had them re-done. This may not have been part of the leaked version. Some of the scenes are also said to have been re-shot.

Arrow SPOILER from http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/tv_and_radio/4326005.stm : The episode - which appears to be the series' first instalment - begins with the Doctor and Rose being chased by Autons, shop mannequins that have come to life.

Quite numbing really to think of the expense and the hype, and this is what they come up with for the first episode. Having watched it, I doubt I'll go out of my way to watch any of the rest. No wonder the American networks won't touch it.
