The show seems to exist solely to sell merchandise these days. The stories and writing certainly arent receiving full attention. S4 has been crap so far and all the foreshadowing is becoming really tedious. They might as well have a flashing neon sign telling us Rose is returning and the world is facing impending environmental doom. Rolling Eyes

See now I've rather enjoyed it so far, I think it's been excellent, perhaps the best series so far, of the new run of course.

I think the first was by far the best. Before it became a money spinning machine. Plus I seem to be the only one who preferred Eccleston over Tennant.

To be honest it's always been a money spinning Machine, the 80's definately was, although they are doing alot more merchandising nowadays.

To be honest though that side of it doesn't bother me.

As for Eccleston Vs Tennant, I'll be honest it's been such a long time since I've watched an Eccleston story that I can't realy remember what he was like, I'll have to dig out the DVD's

I have to agree that Eccleston had that special quirky side and made a better Doctor.Unlike David Tennent who started off well but now we just seem to see an eccentric camp man flying around jupiter.

No you're not, I'll second that Smile

However, I actually wouldn't say "shame he only did one series", because that's actually a part of his appeal.

The fact that there's so few 9th Dr TV stories helps keep the character as more of an enigma, rather than us feeling like we could anticipate everything he's about to say/do (as Tom Baker's longevity made the 4th Dr eventually seem).

Also, Eccleston may well have "gone downhill" - as it kind-of feels that Tennant is starting to do - had he continued.

Indeed - when I see the Ecclestone series repeats i think he was genius in the role. The fact he left after 1 series means you always wanted more of him.

Just a random thought, where will the Doctor get his news from now? Remember in The Sound Of Drums, he was shown as Britains most wanted on 'News 24', (minus the BBC bit.) what will show him todays news now?

True. News doesn't quite have the same ring to it, does it?
