No wonder the series has been shunted to an earlier slot. This episode belonged on Cbeebies. Rolling Eyes

Next week's looks sufficiently "grown-up" to make up for it. I thought it was pretty good tonight, after a bit of a slow start. Nice to see Rose again, that came as a complete surprise!

possibly the worst episode ever, fast forwarded through at least half of it. bring back Martha and don't let RTD write another episode ... ever!

Not the current series but just to let you know, BBC Four are showing the original first 3 episodes of Doctor Who from 1963 (starting now) as part of the Verity Lambert season.

I thought it was great, a nice balance of humour, action & there was that unknown little twist at the end.

Worst episode ever, no way, if you thought that was poor then I suggest you watch the following: Underworld, Terminus, The Sensorites, The Curse Of Peladon, The Monster Of Peladon, The Horns Of Nimon, The Creature From The Pit, Fear Her, Love & Monsters for poor episodes of Who.

I'm glad you missed Timelash off that list - certainly doesn't deserve its reputation.

Tonight's Doctor Who theme tune - you know, it wasn't the same theme tune as the one used for Voyage Of The Damned. It was similar - but not exactly the same - the bass line didn't seem to be as prominent as it was in the Xmas special. The bass line was also more staccato than at Xmas and also, the title sequence into the introducing David Tennant and Catherine Tate was also shorter - this may be because they will have to fit in "Freema Agyeman", "John Barrowman" and "Billie Piper" into future episodes so need to show more of the time tunnel in order to have time to show these names.

In short, it's 5 seconds shorter, the drums are a lot quieter and there is more synth, the piano has also gone, there is an extra orchestra backing and there was a lot more deep bass and oompth to the Xmas special theme tune. So why has it been remixed then? This new one tonight seems a lot more paler in comparison... Crying or Very sad

Confused:

During late 80's and early 90's weren't Soldier, Soldier and Peak Practice, as well as Boon programmes that had 22-26 episodes a year?

I rather liked Timelash, infact from the classic series run there is only two Doctors of which I can watch every one of their stories, Patrick Troughton & Colin Baker

Little too early to call, surely?

It was an introduction episode and served its purpose. Tieing everything together and reintroducing old aspects. A soft launch, as I believe they call it in w**** marketing terms.

Beyond that, oddly for once I liked the new punchier theme tune, and I normally hate it when people piss about with classic aspects to a series.

You're wrong about Love and Monsters though, it was good. Not as good as the other one-off Blink, but not many things are.

give it a chance it's only the first episode and dr who can't be all barrels blazing scary monsters and sci-fi special effects all the time no more that soaps have to be high drama all the time.

I didn't like the remixed theme music. Elements of it reminded me of some of the awful 80s mixes that they did. Perhaps it will grow on me.

It wasn't a bad episode, Catherine Tate wasn't half as annoying as I expected her to be - and I even chuckled quite loudly at the end of the 'miming scene'.

I was gobsmacked by the surprise appearance of Rose at the end!

Donna sounded like 'Nan' when she thought the Dr wanted to 'mate' with her Laughing
