TBH I do not think that Adam was the Doctors assistant/companion as he only got on board the TARDIS due to Rose! The Doctor never liked him anyway!!!!!!

He does count.

Why does he count? - if its becuase he has travelled in the TARDIS then so has Jackie, Rose's Dad, K9 (MKiv) and many other sub-characters including the mother Slitheen but they were not assistants. Adam never actually helped the Doctor in anyway - he was more of a hinderance rather than a help - he was out for himself which yje Doctor did not like and was only in 2 epiosdes btw!!!!!

Even a Dalek has been on baord the TARDIS in New Doctor Who (Parting of the ways) and don't forget that the console was once shot by a Cyberman in the TARDIS (Earthshock) but they have never been assistants!!!

Anyone remember Chemeleon - now that was meant to be an assistant for the doctor but never worked - could it work in today's world of Who?

Adam was a very shortlived companion, his second (and last) story "The Long Game" went under the working title of "The Companion Who Couldn't"

Core fan here!

Not too impressed with Voyage personally, but as a long term fan I am so pleased of the sucess Doctor Who is having!

The ammount of bullying and mockery for being a Who fan as a kid... then in my first year in college, I was suddenly popular! (That was in 2005)

I thought Voyage was rather good although I can understand why some don't like it. One bit I did like was that Kylie's character didn't survive. There was nothing wrong with her just that bringing her back to life would have just been all too convenient. Clive Swift was great as was Geffory Palmer but he was out of it too soon.

Voyage was just too weird.

Well I thought Clive Swift was fantastic, and his characters credit card moment at the end did put a big smile upon me mug.

The strange thing is, I don't really know why I didn't enjoy it. It's probably the rebel in me. Somehow I knew that everyone in the UK was watching it, so I had to be different. Typical me! Oh well, glad you enjoyed it!

The Doctor Who forum is in meltdown because of Clive Swift's interview. Have a read in Doctor Who Magazine, it isn't your usual 'Doctor Who is great' interview.

it because is not a DW plot,

it was a plot around an insurance job, that all the man wanted the insurance.

and plus is was like a 1970's disaster film Confused

Just saw "The Robots of Death," sorry, ahem, the Voyage of the Damned. The reason I say Robots of death is because the robots in this episode looked like the VOC robots, sounded like the VOC robots, and started in a similar plot to ROD. Service robots, "oh no, they're killing everyone, who's programmed them to do this?"

I think RTD displayed his usual banality. There were some really bad cliches, loved ones dying and the like. Then there were the small things, like these supposed aliens having cockney accents, and decorating the whole ship with startling accuracy to the titanic. And yet the historical guide had a ridiculously bad interpretation of christmas.

It's a crashing shame as I felt the whole cast was brilliant, especially Richard Bucket from "Keeping up Appearances," and dingo pop star Kylie Minogue.

My main problem is that the inhabitants were just too much like humans for me to believe they are aliens.

I felt I didn't know enough about any of the characters who died to really care that they were killed. The Captain who caused the crash, it was never explained how he was taken over.

(Oh, and when the piece of meteorite went through the window of the ship, everything should have been sucked out."
)

(And Clive Swift also played Jobel in Revelation of the Daleks"

The ship was decorated by the Capricorn company, the 'historical' information about Earth and Christmas was from the equivalent of a dodgy internet degree scheme, so perfectly believable.

And you've have cared more if they had been more alien than human?

No, those 2 points I made are separate of eachother. If they had been more alien I would not have cared.

Seems only I like it Laughing Oh Well. To be fair the robots did remind me of the ones from Robots Of Death & I agree elements of it weren't explained (why did Mr Palmer's character do what it did?) but I think it was just a bit of harmless fun. I always forgive the oddness of the Christmas specials because that's what they are supposed to be.

However had it been part of the normal series then perhaps I would have felt differently. I'll be honest I haven't watched it back since Christmas so now the festive period has gone when I rewatch it in a few months time I may feel differently.

The new series is looking good by the way, good to see one of the episodes is called The Unicorn And The Wasp as opposed to The Wasp And The Unicorn, I suppose they worked that out via initials (the episode was down as T.U.A.T.W last time) Wink

BTW Do you think it's time I rename this thread Doctor Who - Modern Series Discussions seeing as this ones been going a while?
