For me, bringing back the characters every now and again shows that there is continuity within the show and that past assistants are never forgotten about.

Adam-Probably in a mental asylum now.I don't like how the Doctor dealt with him.I doubt he'll be in the finale even if they all do come back.

Capt Jack-Probably back in Torchwood.

Rose-Stuck in a parallel universe.Isn't there another parallel universe he could get her from?

Donna-She's coming back so she's OK.

Martha-Same as Donna.

TBH I do not think that Adam was the Doctors assistant/companion as he only got on board the TARDIS due to Rose! The Doctor never liked him anyway!!!!!!

Rose is back for the final 3 episodes of the new season,

Jack is definitely coming back towards the end of the season - presumably around the same time as Martha - Torchwood connection!!!!!

Astrid - only if its true that she was the manifestation of the TARDIS, as some papers say!!!!!!

Why does he count? - if its becuase he has travelled in the TARDIS then so has Jackie, Rose's Dad, K9 (MKiv) and many other sub-characters including the mother Slitheen but they were not assistants. Adam never actually helped the Doctor in anyway - he was more of a hinderance rather than a help - he was out for himself which yje Doctor did not like and was only in 2 epiosdes btw!!!!!

Even a Dalek has been on baord the TARDIS in New Doctor Who (Parting of the ways) and don't forget that the console was once shot by a Cyberman in the TARDIS (Earthshock) but they have never been assistants!!!

Anyone remember Chemeleon - now that was meant to be an assistant for the doctor but never worked - could it work in today's world of Who?

and yet many people did not like it, has the doctor gone main-stream

Not too impressed with Voyage personally, but as a long term fan I am so pleased of the sucess Doctor Who is having!

The ammount of bullying and mockery for being a Who fan as a kid... then in my first year in college, I was suddenly popular! (That was in 2005)
