A regeneration is possible but I think that the hiatus is going to take place so that they can change the time of year as to when the good Timelord is aired from Spring to the Auutmn. I feel it would do better in the autumn and, hopefully, X-Factor would have died a death by 2010!!!
Hopefully Torchwood will keep us entertained until the Timelord comes back properly!!!!!! Who knows, even the Doctor could crop up in Torchwood for an episode or two!!!!

Good to see you bothered to read the press release...
The BBC Press Office posted:
After months of media speculation, BBC One can confirm that the Bafta-award winning Doctor Who will return for a fifth series in
spring
2010.

I did read the press release, just like I read the press release for Spooks which should have been shown in May, but is now being shown in the autumn.
A press release may say one thing but the actual event is another. As I said it really wouldn't surprise me if they took this opportunity to move the airing to Autumn instead of Spring. David Tenants stage work has to come first in this case - just like it would for any actor - who knows the stage could last longer than planned!!!
How many other press releases have stated as to when a show is going to be aired and then move it without giving any more press releases?
I was hoping they wasn't going to do this just hope it doesn't effect the series too much when they "rested" it after Series 22.
Then again seeing that they are doing three specials next year (hopefully of the same length as a four parter from the old series) it may not effect it too much

Yes but with the main actor treading the boards in 2009 up until at least November, what else could they do, unless they were forced into another regeneration scene - which I think the Beeb don't want to do just yet!!!!
This is also the reasoning I feel as to why Dr Who will NOT be shown in spring 2010 and provide a good springboard for autumn season instead. Remember they film Doctor Who from July to about January/February. With Tenant out until at least November, that delays filming by about 5 months.
This 5 meet 10 episode for Children in Need, is this going to be a gap filler between the last episode of Season 3 and the Christmas special like the 2005 Children in Need episode was?
Also anyone know when is season 3 going to be repeated on bbc 3 again or shown on UKTV Gold? I only got into it recently with the re-runs of Sesons 1 and 2 on UKTV Gold. I've managed to fill in all the gaps up until the end of Blink via youtube and dailymotion so I haven't seen Utopia onwards and I'm really anxious to get up to date.

The truth is nothing has been released, plot wise. Hopefully it's two 10 minute parts rather that a 5-7 minute slot.
They may be just "testing the water" before actually brining back a past Doctor for a full episode/two parter.

I'd doubt it. The ending of Series 3, with the Titanic crashing through the Tardis walls has surely got to go straight into the 2007 Festive plot (?).
I'd expect the "5 meets 10" skit to be set at some unspecified point (e.g. during an "untelevised adventure" between two Season 3 adventures, with Martha's temporary absence explained in the dialogue. Or something).
