I don't think we've seen the last of her, given the way they dedicated the episode to her.

That was done because they shot it at the same time they were shooting Utopia. Given that Tennant can't shoot two scenes at once...

the same could apply to last year's love and monsters, doubt we'll be seeing Elton again.

Lots of clips and references to past episodes of (new) series 1, 2 and 3 in that episode. I'm asuming the Master goes to C21st and becomes Mr. Saxon and the Doctor and co use Jack's time travel device to follow him next time.

There was also a voice clip played from the Jon Pertwee era. A clip from "The Daemons" of Roger Delgado's Master.
I'm sure I heard Anthony Ainley's laugh as The Master as well.

True, but they tied that episode up-- it had a "happily ever after" style ending (well as happy as you can be partnered with a paving slab, that can miraculously operate a video camera and film at the same height as Elton).

I thought the Sally Sparrow ending was left dangling last week, there didn't seem to be closure on her character, much as in the same way there wasn't with Captain Jack when he first appeared on Doctor Who ... who made a welcome return last night IMO!

I think Elton would make a good companion. Before Freema was announced I imagined Ursula would have thawed out of the paving slab by now and I wanted those two to be the new companions.

OK, someone may slap be about the face with a moist halibut.....(as I haven't read all the previous pages).....but I am a little confused as to how The Master can still be alive after the 9th Doctor took him back to Scaro in an urn.

Additionally, was Derek Jacobi's general demeanour and dress sense supposed to remind us of the 1st Doctor. I was waiting for a twist on that front.

Furthermore, the Doctor's subserviance to The Master seems to be surprisingly just that.....a Master/Teacher to Servant/Pupil relationship. So I'm suspecting that there is more to the interaction between them than we have hitherto been aware of.

I'm avoiding all spoilers because this is turning into quite a good ending to Series 3. The episodes seem to get better and better as the series draws to a close.

EDIT: I liked the fact that John Barrowman was credited in the title sequence.

You certainly are a little confused Wink The 7th Doctor took The Master's remains away from Skaro after he was exterminated by the Daleks, which led to the events of the TV movie. The Master was last seen...

...in the TARDIS, being sucked into the Eye of Harmony.

Derek Jacobi did actually play an alternate version of the First Doctor in the audio drama Deadline . He's also already played The Master in robot form in Scream of the Shalka , the online thingy with Richard E. Grant. Don't think that influenced casting, but he was absolutely brilliant in Utopia and I was sorry to see him regenerate at the end! Not sure about John Simm yet...

Oh, I expect so Very Happy The audio play Master delved into their prior relationship, though that's not necessarily canon. I wonder if The Master's amnesia was self-inflicted...

I jokingly called out "and John Barrowman!" after Freema's name, so I was quite pleased to see it actually happen too Smile

From a presentation point of view, they really need to sort out that title sequence, it was dodgy with the addition of Freemas name as it bounces in really badly, but now with John Barrowmans name in its even worse!

Great episode though. Derek Jacobi is absolutely fantastic. As much as i like John Simm though i'd have preferred them to take a risk and have Derek Jacobi as the Master for the rest of the episodes. Never mind though.

For me personally this was the best title sequence ever used:

Surely they could do a modern version of this graphics wise & keep that theme. I'm getting a bit bored of the current titles/theme

I think these were the best titles the show ever had.

The blue diamond logo and time tunnel effect that became synonymous with Tom Baker was actually introduced in Pertwee's final season. Likewise those titles that you like and most people associate with Peter Davison were introduced in Tom Baker's final season.

Yes those are great titles too, and the logo is great as well, but the theme of the Baker/Davison ones just have the edge for me.

Sylvester McCoy's are still the worst, mainly as the middle eight part is in the opening titles. The middle eight was only ever supposed to be heard in the closing theme

And isn't McCoy's logo the absolute worst? Like something from a Saturday morning kids show!! http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n211/cylon1_2006/36_1_21.gif
