For me it has to be...

1st Doctor - The War Machines
2nd Doctor - The Tomb of the Cybermen
3rd Doctor - Daemons or The Green Death
4th Doctor - Genesis (probably teh best Doctor story ever!)
5th Doctor - The Two Doctors (just for the campness more than anything else) or Earthshock
6th Doctor - Revelation of the Daleks
7th Doctor - Battlefield or Remembrance or Curse of Fenric or Ghost Light or Survival
(funnily enough that era of the Doctor is classed as the worst and yet many of the stories in that era were actually fantastic just not televised properly due to budget constraints on the show - could you image the stories I have mentioned being done today!!)
8th Doctor - well no choice whatsoever - the Movie
9th Doctor - The Empty Child
10th Doctor - 42

The Two Doctors was the 6th Doctor. Smile

For me:

1st Doctor - An Unearthly Child (show people where it all began) or The Time Meddler (1st appearance of another Timelord).

2nd Doctor - Tomb of the Cybermen

3rd Doctor - The Daemons

4th Doctor - Genesis of the Daleks or Logopolis

5th Doctor - The Five Doctors or Planet of Fire

6th Doctor - The Two Doctors or Revelation of the Daleks

7th Doctor - Silver Nemesis

8th Doctor - The Movie

9th Doctor - Dalek

10th Doctor - Human Nature and Family of Blood

You are right - I did mean the Five Doctors (the anniversary special which was actually shown in Australia before being shown on BBC1!!!). Still a very camp story though!

Big apologies - I hang my head in shame

BTW good choice with Silver Nemesis with the NAZI undertones in the storyline! (see another fantastic story, done badly, during McCoy's era)

Wish they would release The Deamons & Greatest Show sometime soon though, Planet Of Fire is due out next year

The classic sets are starting to get a lot better thankfully. Until the last year or so I've not really thought much to the extra content, but since the Davros set I'd say they've started to put effort in.

Something I'd like to see, but probably wont happen, is a boxset of McGann stories taken from the audiobooks and perhaps animated. If Dreamland is successful, then I think it would be a good idea. I've always personally felt he got a bad deal after the movie, as he had a lot of potential.

Plus we need to know how he regenerated still! Laughing

I did wonder if Paul Mcgann was aproached to reprise the role when they recommissioned Dr Who or did they just go for a new 9th Doctor

He's been interviewed recently and said that since he did the movie he's not been spoken to once about Doctor Who. But he has said if they were to approach him he'd take on the work... just they never have done.

I'm very surprised at that, it's rather rude not to have at least asked him if he wanted to reprise the role, they even asked Colin baker back after they sacked him to do the regeneration scene

Rude? Maybe. Good television sense? Definitely.

One of the problem with the 96 McGann movie was the confusion for the casual viewer of the main character changing partway through.

By 2005, there were so many new viewers, it made sense to start with a fresh face, give him 13 episodes of adventure for us to grow to love the character and his universe again and *then* introduce the idea of regeneration.

There were enough perceived factors which could have mitigated against the show becoming the success it has become - changing your lead actor within the first episode would have added to them, purely to keep the long-term fans (who, really, are not the main target audience for new Who) happy.

All true, but now that the 'Whoniverse' [sorry] is established once again, I guess there would be nothing stopping them going back and covering the missing plot holes.

Obviously without treading on the Time War too much in the process, as the final product wouldn't ever live up to the expectations for such a plot now anyway.

But, to be honest, what would that achieve, especially (as you agree) the Time War could never live up to its promise on screen.

There are lots of the Doctor's adventures that take place off-screen, the 8th to 9th regeneration may as well stay there as it has no emotional resonance for new viewers and would effectively just be fan-w*nkery.

There's been little bits of old school Who in the modern series though, one example being the Master's liking for Jelly Babies.

I think the new fans are starting to look back personally. I know several people who never saw it first time around, but have opinions on the tv movie and the Caves of Androzani. The reason for the latter is probably thanks to Time Crash, so if McGann were to cameo or get a flashback moment showing his demise, it could once again encourage people to look back thanks to DVD.

When did the Master like Jelly Babies? Confused

My choices for the repeats:

1 - War Machines

2 - Tomb Of The Cybermen or Seeds Of Death

3 - Time Warrior or Planet Of The Spiders

4 - Robot(if they showed Spiders too!), Invasion Of Time(Horror Of Fang Rock should've been shown at Pebble Mill's closure, as it was made there IMHO), City Of Death(for foreign filming!)

5 - Arc Of Infinity or Resurrection Of The Daleks or Planet Of Fire(Again foreign filming)

6 - Attack of the Cybermen or Mark Of The Rani(for the Ironbridge footage!) or 2 Doctors (foreign filming)

7 - Delta & The Bannermen or Survival(leading into...)

8 - TV Movie

9 - Rose or The Slitheen 2 parter(Aliens Of London/(Names escapes me?))

10 - School Reunion or perhaps the final 2 episodes leading into Matt Smith, like 'Logopolis' being repeated in the Five Faces season.
