I sense this logo will end up growing on me, but to me, it just seems far too bleak and uninspiring. It looks like it was knocked up very quickly in Photoshop.

I suppose the reason it feels this way is because of how good the old logo was: it was different, with warm colours and fine detail, and had an excellent "organic" feel to it that perfectly reflected the new series. This just feels... uninspired. And I don't like the DW-shaped TARDIS thing. Too many superhero connotations - and we all know what happened last time Who had a superhero-style logo (yes, Seventh Doctor logo, I am looking at you...)

Overall, however, I'm still optimistic about the incoming Doctor... however, the logo looks rather nasty at the moment.

I always thought the McCoy logo was more like something from a light entertainment programme or Saturday morning kids show than a something for a superhero. As Moffat says the DW is a recognisable insignia. You hear the TARDIS noise and see DW with the light at the top and you immediately know what it is. Just like the Star Trek badge and transporter noise when they had the trailer for Star Trek earlier this year.
I just think the current logo is a LOT more appealing for kids/teens... aka the newcomers. The Beeb should know that the old Who fans were going to be appealed to anyway, so making a more colourful and different logo was going to help attract the newcomers more than a rehash of the older designs.

What 2010 is bringing, is a rehash, and a cold dark one at that. Doctor Who Adventures is not going to sell looking all dark and metallic. Confused

[Ironic I chose post number 666 to talk about things looking dark Laughing ]

This is also an excellent post. What I like about the current logo is that it was totally new and nothing like what had gone before and perfect for bringing new people to the show. Now the programme is more established they can go back a little bit to the past, at the same time there are people that will no nothing about earlier logos so this'll be new to them.

When teaser trailers start up I think people will be getting excited again.

I'll be excited about its return in general... but as a film & television student [I know, prepare to roll your eyes Laughing ], I don't like the new design at all. Way too Sci-Fi for my liking, which was what made the current look appealing. It wasn't stereotypically anything, it was just... well... new!

And if the Doctor's attire is going retro... the TARDIS is looking retro... and now the logo is looking retro...

...I dunno, it's just like the last 5 years are being completely unwritten. The target audience is no longer being the family, more the cult viewer. Which yeah, woop woop is most of us. I'm just thinking about the majority of the viewing public.

hm, I know what you mean. and I think that is part of the problem with having someone 'take over the helm' as it were...he's going to want to make his mark.

from what i've seen, it is taking a bit of a different direction. but after all the success of Tennant, maybe that's what's needed? (I know several fans who can't imagine having a different doctor to Tennant!)

but I don't think it's going to steer too far away from being family entertainment...that's dr who through and through

I personally believe so. I felt that at the end of the last series, it had almost become a parody of itself. Tennant's constant facial contortions and the persistent need to bring back past characters as if somehow without them the series would fail were putting me off. Thank goodness for the specials.

This is my argument though... is it a different direction? Or just a rehash of a previous one?

Everything else that's been seen regarding the new series has made people cry out that many similarities to Hartnell that anyone would think that the new series will have him starring in it. Laughing

I do not like the new logo.

Personally, I saw no wrong with the old one, but this one just makes me wonder how it would work. I just think it looks too Retro as well.

I thought we'd left this Era but obviously not.

It's a fair comment for you to say that you don't like the new logo, GMTV009, but as everybody always says on here: 'it's best not to make judgements until we see it being used on screen' .

As for whether the 2010 series is going to be retro, or actually a new era...we will all have to wait and see.

I don't think you can make an assumption about reverting to a previous era based simply on the viewing of a BBC publicity shot of a logo.

Did you read as much into the 2005 relaunch when the logo was first revealed? Probably not.

...or the 'Hartnell' TARDIS, or the grey Daleks, or the retro'eske Doctor's outfit...

I wasn't aware of any of that. Perhaps you ought to 'spoiler tag' them for the sake of those who don't want to know.

We don't want another discussion about what should, or should not, be unnecessarily revealed. Rolling Eyes

But yeah search around and you'll find images that show what I mentioned [and is now spoiler tagged] being used on filming locations.

David has just said on GMTV that "The Waters Of Mars" will air on November 15th at 7pm on BBC One.

So pop the date in your diary!

That seems the best place for it to go. Saturday is far too crowded and this way it stays out of The X Factor's crosshairs. Unless of course ITV decide to start it early that day. Shocked
