21-year-old Karen Gillan has been named as the new companion for series five of Doctor Who.

I approve, it's only a photo but I still approve Laughing

Interestingly enough on the DWF there was rumours of a Celtic woman from the past being the next possible companion, and considering she's Scottish that rumour may be true. Will make a change from all the Cockney companions over the last five years Very Happy

I wonder if she's related to Jamie McCrimmon in any way Wink

There's a larger photo on the BBC Press Office article...

My first impressions are that she is going to be fantastic! Bring on Spring 2010

I was interested to see the BBC News' take on the story. 'Doctor Who assistant is unveiled'.

Have a look at that close pictures, there's a familiar Tardis shaped shadow in the centre of her eye

So major surprising news that Outpost Gallifrey's Doctor Who forum is to close down at the end of July.

At Last! Watch will be airing Series 3 of Doctor Who from next Saturday.

They have just been constantly recycling series one and two for ages. I hope they do not cut the shows down, as many of series three ran upto 50/55 minutes meaning Watch might cut some scenes to fit it into 45 minute slot.

Here is our first look at 11th Doctor Who Matt Smith, in costume, and new companion. Smith is looking natty and very autumnal with what looks to be a maroon velvet bow tie and a brown checked jacket; Monkey can see him as a country vet on All Creatures Great and Small. Precious little is known about the new companion, played by Scottish actor Karen Gillan, but we have just learned that her name is Amy Pond . Filming has just started in Cardiff but we won't see the Doctor and Amy in action until spring 2010. Steven Moffat, who wrote much-lauded Doctor Who episodes including The Empty Child and Blink, is the new lead writer and executive producer. He has revealed that he had wanted the job since he was seven. Nothing from the BBC Doctor Who publicity machine about the rumours of a navy blue and white renovation of the Tardis console room, though.
