I hope they are going to use decent HD cameras for Doctor Who... and not subject SD viewers to the awful blur-o-vision that was used for Torchwood, Gavin and Stacey, and now on Doctors.

HD for Series 5, which is IMO likely at worst, I'd expect them to at least make some changes to the console set, if not to replace it completely. It's been four years now, it's starting to look a little stale...

Nothing to do with the cameras, all to do with the set-up and operation.
The bulk of Torchwood was shot on high-quality Sony HDCam models.
There are issues with the BBC HD transmission encoders AND the way some operators run their cameras. (25p with a 1/25th second shutter gives more motion blur than 25fps film with a 180 degree shutter. If you run 25p with a 1/50th second shutter you get a much more film-like look.)

As the hideous blur I've seen was on SD (I don't have HD yet), I'd not feel encouraged to switch to HD if issues with the transmission encoders would make the smudgey mess look even worse.
Anyway, from what you say, it seems like the blur on Doctors, Gavin & Stacey, etc is caused by poor judgement/lack of knowledge by camera operators. Is there no agreed standard within the BBC on the picture quality coming from HD shoots? Surely it should look at least as good as the picture quality from SD shoots, not worse?

It seems now that after this Easter special of Doctor Who Planet of the Dead, we will have a very long wait until Christmas for the next one hour special.
It is a shame that they couldn't put one out at around September, at the start of the Autumn schedules. But it looks like there is to be 2 specials for 2009 with the final two maybe in early January when the Master returns again played by John Simm.
Its a shame the BBC can't be more clear as to when the specials will air.
I have also seen that Rose, Martha and Donna will return for David's last show as the doctor, I wonder if they will appear in episodes when Steven Moffat takes over? I do not think so as it looks like he wants to break from the Russell T Davies era.

I'd be cautious about anything the red tops write, half the time it's a load of b*ll*cks.
However I have no problem with Martha & Donna returning, but please no more Rose after this! People keep saying she's the best companion there ever was but honestly?!?!? You can't get better than Leela or Jamie IMO

Yeah but I think people are referring to the 'modern' series. In which case, it's a close call between Rose and Donna... and as for Martha... well, ahem... yeah, think we'll ignore that over-acting period in the Whoniverse!
Even Torchwood decided not to bring her back a second time, and yet she's getting a 3rd chance in Who? Think Davies is determind to prove the audience she's decent somehow...
I imagine they'll appear at the start of his first episode, to help blend the two Doctors together, but I'm sure Rose will go running back to 'her doctor'. Donna will think he's even scrawnier than before. And Martha will probably do a lot of heavy breathing, cry, and go get married to her real doctor...

What particularly was it that you didn't/don't enjoy about the series 3 finale? You see I have difficulty in trying to comprehend the series 3 finale and I can't decide whether it was good or not. I am not convinced that John Simm made a believable master and I think it would be foolish to bring him back considering he "died" after refusing to regenerate. (Although I do have a rather obscure theory regarding this-but that's for another day). I like the concept of the Toclafane but not sure if they were executed well enough. The "conclusion" based around the matter of faith/messiah idea was a bit lame. The music from Murray Gold was excellent and some of the effects were first class, but all in all I really don't want to think it was c**p but at at the same time can't convince myself it was brilliant!
Maybe you could perhaps pinpoint the faults to help me decide!

It would have been a great idea if it hadn't already been done last year. I watched the last episode of series 3 again last week and found it to be even worse then I remembered. The writing was appalling.

Nothing wrong with Martha IMO, I prefer her over Rose anyday.
Plus the reason why Martha was dropped was because Freema decided to take on the role in Law & Order UK instead, which, if the red tops are to be believed, did cause a bit of a rift between her & RTD.
However I think they have since made up (that's if the whole argument thing is true.)

Where to start?. So much was going with everything but the kitchen sink crammed in, yet none of it actually meant anything at all. It was empty and a classic Hollywood-style case of style over substance. Whenever RTD tries doing "epic" it usually turns out awful IMO. Other bad points: The Master just seemed nonsensical and a bit of a poor Joker rip-off. absurd plot, awful cheesy dialog (Random guy on the street: "it's the master, he walks among us"). Then of course there was that messianic resurrection of the Doctor.
