Reports suggest that Michelle Ryan (formerly Zoe Slater off Eastenders) has entered secret talks with the BBC to be the new assistant when Doctor Who returns in 2010!

This is wicked! She would be perfect for the role - I would certainly tune in! The BBC will announce this secret news very soon!

In the first instance - this is a potential spoiler, and should be indicated as such in your post.

Secondly - the rumour mill is entirely unreliable, is written purely to sell newspapers, and only serves to make some forumers moan about their disappointment when what they have read fails to come to pass.

Its been three years - can we please come to an agreement on spoilers being posted on this forum?

They're called, "spoilers", not "enhancers" for a reason.

I'm not sure this news is a spoiler because it is to do with casting and not storylines. Anyway it's more rumour than anything else. It could be false and just newspaper talk. I don't think Michelle Ryan would be a bad choice but Jemima Rooper would be my pick, a good, quirky actress and attractive but not in a conventional way a bit like Matt Smith.

Wrong, in my opinion.

The interminable chatter of who would play Who, paled only in the face of the derision and disappointment piled upon the announcement.

The show never fails to surprise and excite - yet despite their sterling efforts, those moments of reveal are routinely usurped by those who claim to be fans, yet have no regard for those other viewers whose enjoyment is spoiled. Those who enjoy knowing nothing until they see it fresh.

All it takes is to prevent the above is to use spoiler tags which, given the difference of opinion we have, would seem to be the reasonable approach for a forum such as this.

I agree with you on this Gavin, on DWF they specifically have a spoiler section just in case the rumour turns out to be true. For example when it was announced that Matt Smith was the Doctor & not Patterson Joseph several fans were really disappointed.

However this was only ever posted in the spoilers section so as to stop too many people getting excited & then being disappointed when the rumour turns out to be false.

These are the people I find to be complete idiots - I hope I never meet one in real life.

Oh I agree, I was dissapointed it wasn't him but got over it quite quickly & I am quite happy with the decision they made in the end. However one or two on DWF didn't want to believe it & several are still havign a whinge about MS been chosen Rolling Eyes

Here's a rumour from a forthcoming episode:
The Tardis lands on a heat stricken wasteland and is captured by "mermaid" like aliens. The Doctor is left stranded and has to search for his beloved time machine. He sets out on a blistering journey where he meets "Persia" a middle aged woman who claims to have knowledge of the stars and together they set off on the quest to find the Tardis. Then, along the way they encounter zombie like creatures who claim to have destroyed the tardis....................................

so, what do people reckon?

[[Mod edit: Added SPOILER tags as it's a potential spoiler (depending on accuracy of rumour).]]

Sorry - I didn't think it was a spoiler. I freely read it quite easily on DS as one of the main headlines the other day and therefore thought most of you would know anyway? It was not hidden away in a 20 page forum thread. I apologize. Embarassed

I don't consider it a spoiler either. The BBC have announced that Matt Smith is the Doctor and surely that should be a spoiler as well. Spoilers are about plotlines and storylines. Not about casting. Casting is rightly or wrongly a news item and is a very difficult subject to avoid. Plotlines are different in respect that other people don't want to know what is going to happen in the series. They have a right to avoid such things and in these cases their wishes should be respected.

With regards to my rumour that that mod put in spoiler tags, well, I made it up! It was a tongue in cheek joke to wind Gavin up! It is totally fabricated and untrue!

However, I decided to come clean as I am getting too old for confrontations. By the way, Happy New Year to everyone!
