traditionally the Christmas special is the first of the upcoming series

Really?? since when?? Kylie's Xmas special titanic story did not set up Donna's return in any way. Surely TRADITIONALLY the LAST episode sets up the christmas special (Titanic crashing the tardis, Donna in a wedding dress in the tardis).

David Tennant LOVES playing the Doctor. That's obvious in any interview I've seen with him. It's his dream job. Fair play, let him have a year off, but I don't think we're at a stage to speculate that he's only got next year's specials or one more series in him.

The production codes for the Christmas specials are always the first of each year:

The Christmas Invasion (2.X)
The Runaway Bride (3.X)
Voyage Of The Damned (4.X)

They are also the first story on each boxset & are also the first ones released with the new "season boxart", and in the case of Season 2 TCI & New Earth were on the standalone "Series 2 Volume 1" Disc.

Regarding the speculation, what's the harm in it, as much as he likes playing the role one of two things will happen, 1) Tennant gets bored with the role & leaves, no matter how much he likes playing the part he could get bored with it eventually, 2) Those in charge may want him out (ala C.Baker). It has been hinted that he could be going soon anyway, RTD who, granted is a well know fibber at times with Who to throw people off the scent, said he knows when David's leaving.

Tennant is not going to last forever & isn't the be-all & end-all of Doctor Who. I don't want him to go but he will eventually, he may last as long as T.Baker could be longer, who knows, depends how he feels by that time.

Be great to see the Cybermen back especially as:

Spoiler:
They're going to be our universe ones & not the alternative universe versions

Does this mean they they will be overcome by the use of gold to their chest plates, unlike the alternative unvierse ones? Laughing

or in Ace's case firing Gold Soverigns at Cybermen via a catapult

I have to admit that It was sad that The Doctor wiped out Donna's memory as she was a great companion and different to the female companion that the Doctor has had in the past. But as this is Sci-Fi, I'm am sure there will be a way for Donna to come back in the future.

For the specials and the fifth series in 2010, I'm hoping for a male companion as it would shake the dynamic between the Doctor and his companion. I am also hoping that the Time Lords return in some form especially Romana and The Rani who I have already cast in my mind.

Well there is a character called Rani Chandra being introduced into the Sarah Jane Adventures later this year. She is being played by Anjili Mohindra and will replace Maria Jackson, as Yasmin Paige is unavailable for the new series.

I think we need a male companion too. And preferably one who's more likeable than Adam from S1 - he was, TBH, a bit of a cock. I disliked him.

With regards to if/when Doctor Ten will leave, I think that it'll probably be in next year's last episode before the Christmas special. I also think we can rule out David Morrissey, as he was in the trailer for the Christmas episode.

I suspect the next Doctor will be someone like David Oyelowo or Joseph Mawle, someone good with dark, moody, brooding characters. Just speculation, though.

Reminds me of how some forum members feel about some one else, who posts around here.

Oh, yes. I hope any resemblance between him and myself is purely coincidental - simply because if he was based on me, there'd be a lot of broken TVs with bricks thrown through them.

Anyway, have any final ratings or an AI appeared yet?

What really didn't add up for me was that the Doctor was pining for Rose for so long, and she'd been trying so hard to see the Doctor again, but then after they'd saved the world he just sent her off back to her parallel world.

I think it would have been more true to the characters if Rose had left the Doctor, instead of the other way around, and so I wrote an alternative ending. It uses most of the same dialogue from the real ending, except I've swapped around who says what.

What do you think?

Quote:
On the Tardis, ROSE takes control of the console, and flies the Tardis to Bad Wolf Bay. JACQUI has the brief exchange with DOCTOR2 about the naming of her baby, then DOCTOR interrupts.

DOCTOR:
Hang on, this is the parallel universe, right?

ROSE:
I'm back home.

DONNA:
And the walls of the rift are closing again.

DOCTOR:
What? But you spent all that time trying to find me, you can't go back now.

ROSE:
I have found you. And now I'm never gonna lose you again. We saved the universe, but at a cost. And the cost is me. He's too dangerous to leave on his own, I have to stay with him.

DOCTOR:
But he's not safe, he destroyed the Daleks, he committed genecide. He was born in battle, full of blood and hatred and revenge.

ROSE:
Remind you of somebody? He's like you, when we first met.

DOCTOR:
Yeah but... you made me better.

ROSE:
And I can do the same for him.

DOCTOR:
But he's not me.

DOCTOR2:
I look like you, I think like you, same thoughts, same memories, same everything...

ROSE:
But it's more than that. You said he's only got one heart. Which means he's half human.

DOCTOR2: (to Doctor)
I'll grow old, and never regenerate. I've only got one life. And I could spend it with Rose.

DOCTOR: (to Rose)
Is that what you want?

The TARDIS makes a noise, signalling that the rift is closing.

DONNA:
We've got to go. The universe is sealing itself off. Forever.

ROSE:
Goodbye, Doctor.

DOCTOR:
Right til the end, you never cease to amaze me. Rose Tyler, you are brilliant.

The DOCTOR and ROSE hug. Doctor turns to walk back to the Tardis.

ROSE:
Doctor... wait. One last thing. Do you remember what you said to me, the last time I stood on this beach on the worst day of my life?

DOCTOR:
I said 'Rose Tyler'.

ROSE:
Yeah, and how was that sentence going to end?

The DOCTOR pauses a moment, leans forward and whispers in her ear. ROSE starts to cry and they hug. ROSE walks back to DOCTOR2 and holds his hand as the Tardis disappears on the beach.

Some news on next years specials:

http://www.gallifreyone.com/news.php#newsitemEkEVZAykEZigVDWNqS

Seems as if the four specials include this years Christmas special although I though they said that it was four excluding this years Christmas special a few weeks back?
