The doctors in the new series show a lot more emotions that the first seven doctors in the 63-89 series. Don't remember seeing any of the first seven doctors crying

Who says that's a bad thing? It's what makes the new series seem more alive than the old series IMO. It's a bit like the difference between the original book and the film adaptation of
2001: A Space Odyssey
- the book is so much better than the film because the characters show their emotions so much more. Characters' emotions IMO bring a story much more alive, and that's what makes the new series of
Doctor Who
so brilliant.

where did I say it was bad, or good for that matter? I wasn't criticising anything. I agree with you that it's good to show him with emotions.
I was just wondering if any of the original seven doctors ever cried or showed similar emotions, I don't recall seeing any, although I didn't see the first three doctors (I was 4 when Tom Baker started)

He didn't cry, but the third Doctor looked pretty darn upset when Jo Grant left him to marry a nutty professor.
Little did he know that the wonderful Sarah Jane was about to enter his life.
Absolutely fantastic that the
Gridlock
episode featured the crab-like "Macra", which were only ever in "Old Who" in just one story ever (late 1960s, with Patrick Troughton's Doctor).
It's nice that "New Who" throws-in some of the more obscure stuff from the old days, rather than just the "biggies" (i.e. Daleks, Cybermen, references to Time Lords & Gallifrey, etc etc). Yet it does it in such a way that won't alienate viewers with no knowledge of "Old Who". Brilliant.
But more daleks next episode - is it true that this is the first time daleks will have featured 4 times in three series' (and possibly again in Series 3 at the end)?
