I don't usually comment on episodes, but that episode of Doctor Who has forced me to write something.

That was the single best episode of a series I have ever watched. Everything about it was perfect.

Tonight episode was absolutely brilliant! Moffat is definitely for the right choice for Doctor Who.

Forest Of The Dead. what a blinding episode! But, who exactly is Professor Riversong? Does anyone have any theories? Is she a wife/girlfriend, a future companion, captain jack, Rose in a future incarnation (after absorbing the vortex in series 1 she could have become part time lady) or is she his mother? Or the Master? Or Ramana? I'm amazed at how many choices there could be for existence.

All in all though, the Moff continues to shine with his writing. In 2010, the show will be made of all things great!

I do hate these overexciteable "who is river song" things. Surely she's just a future companion and the vagueness was purely to show the fact you shouldn't be peeking into the future.

Why does every new character have to be an old character in disguise?

I think she's a little bit more than a companion - she seems more like a future lover.

Got to agree with you on that, though.

I thought last nights episode was great. In actual fact I'd put it up there with The Empty Child, The Satan Pit & Human Nature. One of the modern series best & one of the great adventures throughout the shows run 9.5/10 Very Happy

Is it me or there lots of people on this forum who are quite "narky" when someone posts something that another doesn't agree with? i am not exciteable about River Song just curious. Whoever it is she made it clear that she had been to the end of the universe with him and in Utopia the doctor said that even timelords don't go to the end of the universe so he wouldn't go there by choice again.

if people want to speculate on who she is then that is up to them. it only means they are enjoying the series. It is no different in people who predict the winners of talent shows except that the passion of doctor who fans are greater.

I suggested I had a slight annoyance at the Who-Lite episodes and got accused of being "stupid". I then ask who River Song and I was accused of being exciteable. If someone doesn't want to answer the points then don't. But please don't belittle others for wanting to pursue a different line of topic.

Perhaps the argument here is that the mysteries of the programme are part of the charm, and should be embraced in that way, rather than seeing them as a puzzle which must be solved.

In the "Confidential" programme immediately after the episode we heard both the writer and the producer say that River Song is someone very special to the Doctor in the future. "Perhaps even his wife".

Until that future is writen then we're not supposed to know.

The same goes with the Doctor's name. We know that it is hugely significant and yet it remains a mystery,

There's nothing wrong with musing over these mysteries oneself, but bringing up the question on a forum is pointless - because the answer hasn't been written yet .

My favourite example of playing with the mystery of the Doctor's name came in the 1986 season (which is coming to DVD later this year! Smile )...

The 6th Dr announces (not really talking to Peri as such, but more thinking-out-loud): "I might stay here [the planet Ravalox] for a year, and write a thesis - Ancient Life on Ravalox, by Doctor ..."

He says "Doctor" in such a way as to imply that he's gonna say at least two words afterwards (e.g. a forename & surname). But Peri - who wasn't really listening to him - interrupts him when he's barely finished saying the word "Doctor", to draw his attention to something she's noticed.

Brilliant.

When we get to the last ever episode, I would love it if they did something similar to CAL, and the Doctor's name was William Henry Ogilvy or something - he literally is Doctor WHO.

I wouldn't. How rubbish would that be? The only reason the mystery is good is because we don't know the answer.

That would be incredibly untacky and highly unlikely. Time Lords generally only use a single name, such as Koschei (the Master's Gallifreyan name) and Romanadvoratrelundar (Romana's full name). There is, however, evidence that the Doctor's Gallifreyan name may contain the syllable "Who" or "hu".
