I like this piece of casting. I think Peter Capaldi will bring something completely different to the role, than any previous Doctor since 2005. He'll be more father-figure type Doctor, rather like the early Doctors were. He even did a William Hartnell style grasp of his jacket collars when he came out on the live show.

is he not the same age as William Hartnell?

William Hartnell would be 105. William Hartnell is dead, sorry you had to find out this way.

I'm gutted Ted Moult didn't get the role, personally.

That's a little cold.

He is the same age as William Hartnell was when he first took on the role, 55.

Well, you reply to Jon then. See if you can break bad news any better.

EDIT: I mean WillPS.

He meant that Peter Capaldi is taking on the role at the same age that William Hartnell was when he first took on the role. He just didn't say it right.. And I did answer him.

William Hartnell gave up the role in 1966 due to ill health, but he managed one final appearance in 1972 before he died of heart failure in 1975, aged just 67.

Now that is not only far less cold, but also educational.

For god's sake man, can't you detect sarcasm?

Capaldi is an excellent choice. I'll start watching again.

Sarcasm does not work, when the medium has no facility to reveal the emotional tone of the words. In other words, the written word does not portray sarcasm. It's only individuals interpretations that add sarcasm to the written word.

Ben Stephenson, Controller, BBC Drama Commissioning says : “We started thinking Peter Capaldi might be the right person to take on this iconic part a few months ago. But it was only when he did a secret audition at Steven's house under the cover of darkness that we knew we had our man. He's an extraordinarily talented actor who can seemingly turn his hand to anything. We can't wait to premiere his unique take on the Doctor on Christmas Day and we are sure he's going to become one of the all-time classic Doctors.”

(My bolding)

This backs up my suspicion that Matt Smith may actually regenerate in the November Anniversary Special, with perhaps some sort of flashback appearance at Christmas.

If the regeneration happens at the end of the Christmas special, Capaldi isn't going to have much chance to 'premiere his unique take on the Doctor'.

Aye very good. And you don't come across as hopelessly unaware of the bleeding obvious at all.
