Yeah, that lit version is Photoshopped.

Casting a less bleary eye over it (and overlaying the images and applying a difference filter makes it obvious).

It's been announced this afternoon that the new series of Doctor Who will be shown on Sunday instead of Saturday.

Jodie Whittaker's Doctor Who to be broadcast on Sundays
Article: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-45422266

On one hand this does avoid Doctor Who having varying start times due to Strictly, and should avoid a clash with The X Factor. At a guess it'll now be shown either before or after the Strictly results show (potentially clashing with the X Factor results).

On the other hand I wonder whether shunting it to a Sunday night is an acknowledgement of the declining ratings. Arguably had the new series been shown in the Spring it would have avoided many of the Saturday night schedule problems.

For whatever reason the BBC seem to want all their big hitters airing in the Autumn so sticking the show on in the Winter would probably look like more of a snub than a switch from Saturday to Sunday. The show's ratings held up surprisingly steadily right up untill that disastrous series when they aired it after Strictly and they plummeted. I think for Doctor Who the time slot is more is more important than day. If it gets a decent, and consistent, time a move to Sundays could actually work in the shows favour.

Yeah, series 9 was a disaster with a few episodes even ending after 9pm. I'm please to see there won't be a repeat of that!

But shame on them for that Cultbox cease and desist. They should be blaming Apple for that iTunes mistake.

What time will it air though? Strictly can’t move from its time, and neither can Countryfile? They would be foolish to move these two from their slots.

What harm does it do to know when it's going out a day before the official announcement? Honestly...

It's not like ITV haven't still got a month to change their schedules (if, indeed, they're going to bother). Other than that, who else commercially really gives much of a monkey's?

I think it'll go something like...

7th October:
5:15pm: Countryfile
6:15pm Doctor Who (Feature length first episode)
7:20pm: Strictly Results
8pm: TBC

Regular week:
5:30pm: Countryfile
6:30pm Doctor Who
7:20pm: Strictly Results
8pm: TBC

Unless they move Stricty to 8pm, then I can't see it being anything other than this.

The Corporation would be mad to move Countryfile much out of its core slot. It has a very strong following which it has cultivated by not being a moveable feast. I think the 8pm junction has to be vulnerable in this rearrangement especially if the Ten remains a fixture. A lot depends on what they intend to fill the 9pm drama with in Who season.

I wouldn't agree with that, in the spring you have the Cup Final and Eurovision and this year you'd have had the World Cup to contend with as well. It managed it in 2006 when the show was in its pomp but it would have much more of a job this time. And you end up creeping into the summer, there was that episode last series set in the dead at night which unfortunately ended up going out on the hottest, sunniest day of the year and I saw more of myself reflected in the screen than the actual programme.

[mod edit: wrestling talk now elsewhere!]

Sunday 9pm seems to have become an highly competitive slot in terms of drama for both BBC and ITV. They both throw their high cost productions into it (Night Manager, Bodyguard, Victoria, Mr Selfridge etc).

BBC aren't going to move Countryfile: it's just too popular where it is - it beats Casualty's figures on Saturday evening.

The best option is to fix Doctor Who in the 6:15-7pm slot. Bring forward the national & regional news to 5:50 (they seems fairly flexible anyway)

Job done . . . Thumbs up

Episodes are all 50 minutes this year (apart from the opener).
