I didn't get an answer from the Beeb to my enquiry as to why Doctor Who wasn't shown in 5.1 last week, but it was this week.

They still make woefully little use of it for the titles, though. It has always annoyed me how it goes from a nice immersive 5.1 during the cold open, then drops to basically stereo with a bit of echo for the titles, then back to proper 5.1 again.

Just want to say how brilliant tonight's Doctor Who was, probably one of the best episodes in a long time!

I very much agree. Wonderful acting from all, a clever story with a fellow time traveller rather than an alien playing the enemy; the time travelling character of course written in a way that shows that unfortunately despite the passing of time there are some people who still hold extreme prejudices.

Having seen the new TARDIS interior properly on screen, I can’t say I’m overly impressed. The ‘crystal’ pillars around the console appear to block quite a few potential camera shots. The idea that console room has no fixed walls sounds great, but looks less effective in reality. The central crystal moving up and down also looked a little comical in tonight’s episode.

The set itself also looks pretty small, certainly smaller than the previous two designs. One of the new companions said in the Radio Times: “The Tardis is actually much smaller than I thought it would be — and then you get the cameras in and there’s really no space!”.

I expected it to be awfuly ham fisted but it was really incredible. After a few teething problems the new show really came into it's own this episode.

There is a rumour that we will not be focusing much on the TARDIS console room, and that we might explore other rooms of the TARDIS, meaning the console room will not be only room we ever see, which has been the norm since 2005. Just a rumour though.

If the rest of series is like this, DW will be here for years to come. I also like the fact the tardis is doing that thing again, was it Peter Davidson 2nd series where it never landed in the right place.

The one and only dissatisfaction that episode gave me was using a pop song (albeit an appropriate one lyrically) instead of the theme music for the titles.

In terms of story, I loved it. Couldn't fault the way it was done at all. Glad it didn't shy away from portraying the treatment of black people accurately, too.
Guess who's big in the back time.

Doctor Who usually have an opening sequence before the titles. I wonder if all the episode will start with the titles?

It seems to be harking back to the classic series with the titles themselves so I imagine it’s a decision they’ve made on purpose to have no pre-titles sequence similar to the classic series (mostly).

I can't determine if that's a good thing or not.
