The Americans getting the BBC America simulcast did miss out on that, they cut just after credits to a premiere party followed by immediate re-run of the episode itself.

That's odd. An American thing I assume?

Initially, I thought this would be for the West Coast audience. However, even for the East Coast it was shown at 13:45, which isn't prime time. At 10:45 on a Sunday morning for the West Coast, that was even worse.

I don't blame them for trying to rebroadcast it to capture a larger audience.

How come there were no opening titles?

More time for storytelling.

I doubt that would have been it. It was already a special length episode - I doubt another five minutes would have been a problem. As it is they presumably cut it down to an hour anyway. It was probably more because there just wasn't a good place to put a break in the first 5-10 minutes for the titles.

Is this the first time there has been no titles or any image inside or outside of the TARDIS in an episode?

Sleep No More a couple of years ago didn't have the usual title sequence. Death in Heaven stupidly had Clara's face in the titles instead of the Doctor's, all for a cheap throw-away joke which didn't go anywhere.

TARDIS-less stories include Midnight, The Lie of the Land, Genesis of the Daleks, and a number of Pertwee ones while it was up on bricks. Plenty of classic episodes would have had no TARDIS, but it would been seen in the first and/or last episode of the story.

The last two series of the classic version (i.e. most of McCoy’s run) had only one interior TARDIS scene as the set had been damaged whilst in storage. In the one scene where it did appear they conveniently had the lights down for some plot reason.

Not quite - as well as the aforementioned scene from Battlefield, there was also a normally-lit console room scene in The Greatest Show in the Galaxy in the season before. So presumably the damage happened between filming for season 25 and season 26.

No plot reason was given for the darkness - the Doctor more or less just shrugs off the question when Ace asks why it's so dark.

Now here's an oddity: last night's episode doesn't seem to have been broadcast in 5.1 surround sound, which I'm pretty sure it always has been since it went HD. Does anyone know any different?

I know some actors don't stick around for too long for fear of typecasting, but in a weird way I couldn't shake the feeling of The Chase every time Bradley was on screen, to the extent when the monster took his mask off I was half expecting Shaun Wallace to be underneath!

I don't see Graham I just see Bradley Walsh in alien situations lol

Bradders Bangers (on his insta) is hilarious. Genious casting.

As I've only watched Bradley Walsh in The Chase for 30 seconds, I don't have the game show comparisons to make about him.

ITV have spoiler scheduled Celebrity Chase against Doctor Who next week, and no, it's not a repeat. So Bradley Walsh will be on two channels at the same time! Mad

If only there were catchup services or timeshifted channels.

I think Bradley Walsh is one of the great things about the new series. In my opinion, he's a genuinely talented actor and it's good to see him in this capacity again. I think it's too early to say that I see him as his character since we've only had an hour of him playing Graham.

Think the first episode was very well done. Jodie fits the role and many of her mannerism and lines are for me reminiscent of 10. I would say I think the episode as a whole felt more like Torchwood than Doctor Who.

Visually, it looked fantastic. I'm looking forward to seeing the rest of series not least the new titles and of course hearing some more of what seems like a really nice rendition of the theme.

Having rewatched all nu-who post-regeneration debut episodes since The Woman Who Fell To Earth, it has surprised me how unimpressive Capaldi's was. I think Jodie's debut is on par with The Christmas Invasion and is equally as good. The Eleventh Hour is okay but somewhat lacklustre by comparison.

Saw a lot of criticism of this on Twitter but to be fair to ITV, Celebrity Chase has been in that timeslot running into the X Factor results show for years now. If it works for them should they be obliged to move it?
