Bill O'Reilly is a right-wing conservative pundit on FOX News Channel. Check him out on Sky Ch No 509, he always makes me laugh with his right wing nonsense.
That is what Colbert is doing. A comedic impression of Mr Bill.
Am so glad More4 have the guts to keep Daily Show. Is has not moved from its early slot of 8.30pm. Most shows like these are shunted to 10pm/11pm, shows More4 in a good light.
Phew - not just me then. I've tried to "get" Leno, Letterman and Conan, and just don't. They seem to be unfunny, not particularly intelligent, and very dull. (The way they direct and cut interviews and music numbers is really bad...) I think they are just really conservative - both in content AND production... I'm not surprised that few UK channels pick them up - I think they are of limited appeal to a UK audience.
I "get" Colbert and The Daily Show - and think that The Daily Show can be brilliant at times (though I also can't stand the way they cut interviews - it is SO pedestrian. Watch how long they sit on the first two-shot for...)
To be honest, the Late Show never really fitted in with the rest of the programming on Diva TV - Diva TV is a female skewed channel, which I wouldn't say the Late Show was (apart from the celebs).
And now that Diva TV is fully owned by NBCUniversal, it was only a matter of time that they stopped lining the pockets of CBS by buying the show off them.
Dave would be a good shout for a new home, but one suspects that with their budget for non BBC aquistions, they may need to do a similar deal that ITV4 did when they showed Late Night W/ Letterman, and the rights were purchased via a long term advertising deal with Proctor and Gamble.
More 4's controller said in Broadcast mag a few months ago that The Daily Show is very cheap programming for More 4, and does reasonably well in the 8.30pm timeslot in multichannel homes, so I suspect it'll be around for quite a while yet.
Anyone know if the Daily Show's ratings are picking up in the UK in the run up to the election - they're getting their best ever ratings in the US at the moment.
It works well in it's 8.30pm slot on More4 as part of the "News Hour", but I'm surprised they don't give it a repeat showing around 11pm - or perhaps even in the run up to the election a late-night airing on C4.

Daily Show's a show of thirds for me - the first part (the "news bulletin") is usually brilliant, the second part (a pre-recorded report of some kind) is very mixed, and I usually just turn off for the interviews.

They DID give it a late slot originally. I think that vanished around the time of the writers' strike.
