I caught a bit of the Disney Channel this weekend while in Disneyland Paris (well we had the pleasure of 3 versions of the channel!) one French, English and German. I was quite suprised to see the Disney channel to be a non-commercial, has it always been non-commercial?, i havent had the disney channel for a while since it launched and didnt they have adverts then?

I also went on a tour of the Disney Channel television studios in Paris and we saw how the channel was put together, although it was wuite confusing because the tour guide spoke french and they had subtitles on the plazmas but it was a bit difficult to find the english subtitles!.

The Disney Channel is Britain, is non commercial in the sense that it doesn't sell advertising space. Though the package of 4 channels costs £5.99 a month, unless you subscribe to the full package, and then I think it was some sort of deal with Sky so that Sky then pays part of the £41 to the Disney Channel, though I bet it isn't the full £5.99.

It's nice that it is non commercial, you just get the odd trailer now and then, and also it gives Studio Disney more live linking time.
The only problem I have with it is that due to no proper adverts, when you're watching programmes at night, you get 5 minute fill ins, which at the moment seem to be the spooky sisters (a DC UK short cartoon series), or Bus Life (a short DC UK series set on a bus), and they don't seem to be ideal inbetween home improvement, seems as though most of the kids should be in bed by then anyway.

The French and German versions were also non-commercial, unless i swiched over during a trailer and then adverts came on afterwards. Presentation wise, the French and German channels have the same presentation as the UK one.

The episode of 8 Simple Rules on tuesday, im guessing it was the last one of series two? because Katy Segal said "Previously on 8 Simple Rules" It was also the first episode i've seen of series 2.

I think the one shown tonight Finale Part Deux is the last one in Series 2 as the last time it was shown Disney went straight to the episodes "What Dad would Want", though from next week abc1 is starting to show Series 2, so I'm not sure what this means for Disney, don't know if they're going back to Series 1. Also is there any news on Series 3, as I guess Disney would get it before abc1.

I've never seen the German version, however the spanish, french and italian versions are virtually the same, except there's more english avaulable on the spanish version.

The German version carries ex-Nickelodeon Germany programmes, I remember a few years ago watching the Rugrats in German on Disney Channel Germany, as they have it available in the Hotels at Disneyland Paris.

I think The Disney Channel has the same sort of presentation across the World, as there is a US programme on Disney that has 'A Disney Channel Original' endcap, where the logo is the exact same as the UK version. I prefered the days when it was simply 3 grey circles on the top right hand corner of the screen.

OT: I've never said the word Disney so much in one post.

It's included as a 'free' bonus in the Movie World package as well as the top Sky World package.

One slightly annoying thing with the Disney channel is that with some movies, for example Finding Nemo, the premiere was in anamorphic widescreen but repeat showings have been 4:3 pan & scan.

Yeah, I don't understand that either. Perhaps they can only go widescreen when they plan it well in advance or something like that. With almost all of their film output produced in widescreen, especially the premieres, surely its time that they looked at it.

Reading that each country has the same things, It's a shame that each country can't do it's own thing, and just allow them to do their own idents, etc aslong as they include the Disney Channel logo, similar to how Nickelodeon do it.
