Noticed that Discovery have a channel called "Turbo" in the states:

Seems to also be about cars, motor bikes etc. No "Discovery" part of the name though.

It the states, the Discovery brand isn't used too much apart from Discovery Channel itself and Discovery HD Theatre. Here all the channels promote the Discovery brand. I think the new DiscTurbo here is loosly based on the US one, in the same way Wings, Kids and many other now rebraded channels were.

Do Discovery show any programmes in widescreen? I would presume so, seeing as they have a HD service, but I have never seen any.

You would think that, but nothing is aired in widescreen, all 14:9. It seems like they've skipped widescreen altogether and gone straight to HD, a very strange move if you ask me. NatGeo introduced widescreen when they lauched HD, so there is no real reason why Discovery can't.

Oddly Discovery Turbo has just appeared on the EPG (even though they are still showing Wings). It's in space to be occupied by Animal Planet, and Sky don't normally do changes until about 1030am each day Shocked

Even more odd, on Virgin TV the EPG now states that the channel is Discovery Turbo with all that "American Chopper" listings but they are still blocking the broadcast until 6pm Rolling Eyes

Its turning out to be a black day in the history of Virgin TV, No Sky One and now only part time Turbo!

I'm so happy I have Sky Digital!

Is it possible that Turbo up to 6pm is being shown on the channel that used to broadcast Discovery Kids?

No - Discovery Kids just has a card saying that the service is no longer available.

Seems odd that Virgin keep a place on the EPG for the removed channels (although the jokey ones earlier were good!).

When a channel (like Disc Kids) stops it's removed entirely from the Sky EPG during that morning's update. Although (and I'm about to contradict myself now) they left ITV News on there for days after it closed with a "no longer available" banner. Rather inconsistent.

I think it depends more on the channel. I find changes tend to be made when the channel request it, so if a channel doesn't as Sky for the EPG slot to be taken off, it doesn't happen.

Depends on the channel I suppose - with ITV News it was closed suddenly and was ITV's space, which would probably be later used for something else.

Is there still a hole in the Sky/Virgin EPG where ITV News once was?
