I noticed today that Discovery Real Time has got itself a new logo (although Real Time Extra still has the old one!) - it's pretty smart, but it got me thinking...

Isn't it about time Discovery smartened up the look of all their channels?

There are so many inconsistencies. Real Life *did* have the same style logo as Home & Health and Travel & Living... but now it doesn't. Discovery Science and Discovery Civilisation look the same as each other but different to the rest. Discovery Turbo has some random logo that just doesn't fit in with anything. And why is Animal Planet not Discovery branded, despite its obvious connection to the rest of the channels?

I think they need a bit of a revamp as, at the moment, some of the channels look a bit amateur (Science and Civilisation in particular) and, as highly-paid marketing people would tell you, consistency would improve brand awareness. Widescreen would be good too, seeing as they obviously have the content (they have WS on the HD channel).

Any agreements? Disagreements? Comments? Parsnips?

Science & Civilisation just haven't had new logos in yoinks now, I think - it's not so much a conscious effort to separate them as they've just been kinda left.

Turbo, OTOH, is the newest channel, so if RT's got a new logo, you'd expect a resemblance to that...

And, yeah, I'd love to see Mythbusters in widescreen, rather than a 14:9-in-4:3-frame crop, but I don't know if they'd do it just for the main channel, or whether they have the readies to fix up all of them...

This is the new Real Time logo. It's not too different from the one they had before. Perhaps Knowledge will have something similar.
