Discovery Channel UK have refreshed their look, and are now using the smaller 'Globe + D' logo that Discovery Channel US use, both on bumpers and as the DOG (the DOG is single-colour):

No change to Discovery HD.

I notice that the DOG is now in the 16:9 safe area, as with Dicovery History. Hopefully they will also change the position for Turbo, Science and Animal Planet.

When did it actually change, as I only first noticed it yesterday (Friday) evening?

I love these, but still dislike Discovery is 14:9ing everything that was made in 4:3.

Discovery US crops 4:3 programmes in to 14:9-ish ratio on their HD channel.

This is presumably because they're old copies that they obtained before they went widescreen. It's a long process to get 16:9 copies of everything from the production companies and re-reversion them, if they even feel they need to

Never really understood Discovery's approach to channel branding. Given that they have a range of channels, you'd think they would make some sort of effort to have some sort of cohesive look between them. We've still got Discovery Real Time using the old Discovery logo, some of the channels don't use the Discovery logo at all, yet some of them do. I'm not suggesting having them all looking identical, but it doesn't work at the moment and I'd love to see them refresh some of their spin-off channels.

Discovery Shed and Discovery History look great, the rest (Science, Real Time and Turbo) don't.

The new look seems to have been created by Discovery UK Creative, Double G Studios and Dixon Baxi.

There's an article about the new look on Creative Review:

Discovery UK Creative have also posted a bunch of videos on their Vimeo profile:
