Yep, it's got the new US logo which has been in use for some time and is now broadcasting in widescreen. The other Discovery channels weren't when I checked, and Discovery Knowledge hasn't updated their logo. I only watch DC for one thing and one thing only; Mythbusters.

Discovery HD has also got the new logo, the others (Knowledge etc.) haven't.

Glad to see they've updated their look, it's much needed. Will be interesting to see if they update the rest of the channels accordingly - they've never really been very good at consistency, and Real Time and Home & Health haven't had their current look that long.

Good also to see them finally venture towards widescreen as well.

Could this be a reasonable excuse for the delay of Quest maybe too?

Unfortunately, they're cropping stuff. MythBusters has always been a 14:9 crop on Discovery... and it appears that they've cropped that to 16:9 to get a "widescreen" version.

Yes, I noticed that today when I watched Time Team. IMO it's worse than watching a 4:3 programme on a 16:9 TV.

The new HD dog is a vast improvement on the previous one which was very large, ugly and intrusive. Having said that, it could do with being moved further into the corner. There's really no need to allow for so much overscan when there's little or none on HD.

I would've thought Discovery fell into the same category as MTV and Channel 4, whereas the logo was too iconic to be changed - I was clearly wrong.

Actually, it's been changed several times:

The first three are largely similar though - especially as the Discovery typeface is the same throughout.

The new logo marks a step change from the previous logo - the most radical change in its history.

I quite like the new logo - it's modern and fresh, although it is a little on the plain side.
