NewsCorp only own around 37% of Sky.
Who owns the rest?
Ostensibly the public own the rest of BSkyB plc - but News Corp is the largest minority shareholder.
Yeah, I liked the way Ben said Murdoch owns just 37% of Sky - isn't that enough?! I mean, Murdoch has enough involvement himself and one of his sons heads up the operation here in the UK. Somehow I think NewsCorp have more than a large say in what Sky does don't you?
It's been mooted for a very long time. There's been much speculation from journalists (and from the company itself) that DirecTV, BSkyB, Sky Italia, Sky Australia and Star would all come together to share a brand name.
Sky Global was the name being suggested, which I thought would be very cool, but it could all be a pipe dream...
As for the 37% - it's the largest single holding so therefore gives News Corp the most prominant say in the running of the company.
