There is no such thing as a digital aerial!

EDITED for exceptionally poor spelling (I was in a hurry)!

You have a what? Confused

It's made out of 1s and 0s instead of the more usual metal.

I must say it wasn't a very high-tech operation turning off BBC TWo analogue, as this unceremonious event by an un-named individual at the transmitter shows:

It's a warning for you to evacuate your house: do it now, but remember to smash your modem beyond repair before you leave. Just in case.

All rather poorly staged for the camera in my opinion.

It could even be described as yet more fakery from the television companies, seeing as nothing was actually switched off, in the true, electrical sense.

The ITV signal was moved from its original transmitter to the old BBC Two transmitter, then the new PSB1 Mux signal was fed onto the old ITV transmitter.

The truth was probably just the swopping round of a couple of U-links.

That's before I enquire what time in the middle of the day they recorded the bloke watching the recording of the Learning Zone changing to snow. Rather a lot of daylight coming through those closed curtains, methinks. Or does he really live only two feet away from a street lamp?

Not sure if that's entirely true, I dont think you you can just replace the baseband feed into a transmitter from analogue to digital signal just like that. I was under the impression that new or heavily modified transmitters were needed.

It's very likely there was a switch off of the old ITV1 transmitter before the new DTT one was powered up on the same frequency

I agree Nick, it wasn't very well staged for TV. The actual sequence of events was:

Arrow 02:00 BBC 2 analogue feed turned off
Arrow 02:07 ITV1 analogue feed swapped to former BBC 2 frequency
Arrow 02:37 Digital PSB1 Mux turned on.

I'd like to have seen some of the captions put on screen. I presume the BBC 2 analogue signal was replaced by a caption from the transmitter in the intervening 7 mins before ITV1 started. Additionally a similar sort of caption from 02:07-02:36 on the former ITV1 analogue frequency explaining where ITV1 had gone (for those who had been hidong under a rock until this morning).

No. I have used a booster on my aerial since I moved to Plymouth. The analogue signal is still awful, which is why I (and all my neighbours) have Sky (there is no cable on this road).

However, the Freeview signal is OK for Muxes 1, 2 and B. Apparently DigitalUK claim a significant improvement in the signal strength come July 2009.

I need a new aerial if I want to watch Five analogue, but never bothered because I had it on Sky (from their analogue days).

EDIT:
It all depends what frequencies will be used by your transmitter for the Muxes after DSO. From Caradon Hill they will occupy the same as BBC, ITV and C4 currently occupy; all of which I can receive within the range of my existing aerial.
