That's a bit daft, Ant and Dec will not be axed. However much you hate them, you simply have to accept that they are loved by millions of people. I found Doctor Who more silly and less thought provoking than Ant and Dec's Takeaway. It doesn't make me hate Doctor Who though. Both are very different programmes, but the word "intelligent" doesn't really seem to fit with either shows for me.
However, I still respect the fact that a lot of people love Doctor Who and there's a lot of interest in it's return to television. Whether the Doctor can keep people's interest is another story. I think people can have flexible enough minds to do and watch what they want (trash telly included) and still keep a healthy balance.
I would expect Dr Who to have done very well on it's first week mainly because people will want to see what this new Doctor is all about, but I would be more interested in seeing what the ratings are showing in a few weeks.
Generally I would imagine people who love both shows are more likely to watch Takeaway and see Doctor Who at a later date (either by recording or watching a repeat) because Takeaway is live and probably best enjoyed that way.
Finally (yes my rant is nearly over) I'd say this is a battle between two very different Saturday nights on two very different channels, which IMO seems more fair to the viewer than Pop Idol versus Fame Academy.

I hope this poll reflects the viewing figures. If it does, Ant and Dec will be axed hopefully, hoorah! ... I don't know about other people, but it's the ultimate battle between trash television and intelligent, well made television.
