I'm told that only the last series of Tiswas was shown on Ulster Television. They didn't start broadcasting until lunchtime at the weekend.

Well it didn't make it on Westward till late (c. 1980), but they always were a law unto themselves.

However TV Cream goes into more details about when the regions picked up the series. Channel was the only ITV station not to show the show and that's because they never opened until around 12.10pm on a Saturday or Sunday.

Just for the record HTV was one of the first stations to pick it up the show. We used to have a programme called Ten on Saturday which featured a mix of cartoons and cheap fillers as well as opt in to Tiswas. Chris would often wish HTV viewers goodbye.

I can also recall an episode which started with the wrong station ident being played. Chris stepped in and said something like "That's not right, let's try that again!" They must of went through most of the ITV idents before they came to the ATV one! Those were the days... sigh! Wink

Same with Tyne Tees. We had a succession of clips shows locally-produced and presented by continuity anno Lyn Spencer. No wonder then that I have little respect for Saturday morning kids' TV.... Rolling Eyes

I'm on the team for this site, and we're working on a full 'episode guide'. Now at present this concentrates (as you might expect) on ATV/Central's original showings, but we do hope to include as many regional variations as possible. For example I've researched the final non-Tarrant series and there are a lot of discrepancies... I think we're almost certain that Channel never took it, but we can't be 100% sure because it appears that Channel took a lot of the Southern TV feed at weekends... possibly not matching with TV Times listings...

If anyone has definite info on which regions differ from the ATV TX list as shown on the site, email one of us (including specific dates etc...) through the 'Contact' section of the site!

Hmm, interesting - I'll have a word with my 'friend' at WM and get a copy of it.

Bob's a great fella - I interviewed him for the website last year, on camera for a potential DVD release, and he was a really friendly and accomodating person.

Channel relied on Westward, and then TSW for any 'live' and most recorded network programmes until 1984 when the IBA provided a feed from TVS.

So it's safe to say that if Channel did ever screen it, it would have been via Westward/TSW.

Correct on the 'Tiswas' part, Mark, and partly on the bit about their broadcasting hours.

Typically, they used to come on air at about 10.00/10.30 on Saturdays with something like 'Little House on the Prairie' or 'Tarzan'. Then there were those odd regional series that they seemed to be even more into than other ITV regions. Clearly they didn't feel 'Tiswas' was suitable for sensitive for sensitive Ulster minds. Wink

On Sundays, they typically didn't kick-off until 11.00 with 'Link' or 'Getting On', and would only start earlier with 'Morning Worship' if it was Ulster's turn to transmit the service from a church in Northern Ireland.
