Alex Deakin did the recorded regional weather forecasts for Breakfast this morning in England and Wales. The presenter who works on News 24 from 9pm on the previous night records the regional forecasts for transmission at 6.58 and 7.58. Scotland is different because the weather presenters in Scotland do their own
Does that mean that there's one forecast that covers the whole of England and Wales?
the weather for Scotland is usually just a static caption or two voiced by the newsreader.

so how does that work then - i thought look north would have used the CSO self opt thing at breakfast, as i presumemed most regions did, i thought midlands today were the exception as they havent got room for a CSO set. - i also presumed every english region took linked to VT of the network weather presenter by saying 'now heres darren betts with the midlands weather' (pretending its live).

i wonder why some regions have in studio weather? midlands today use the occasional static written capion - but never a live presenter in the studio

(i say bring back the old midlands today breakfast bulletins with mike kilbane, infront of the CSO with the shakey camera looking towards bham - making it look like an earthquake, always made me laugh in the morning anyway, lol)

I missed it again this morning, Who did the regions weather today?

Wednesday - Look North forecaster
Thursday - Louise Lear
Friday - Alex Deakin
Monday - ?
Tuesday - Paul Hudson is back, so Look North will do their own again

---

Look North do Breakfast bulletins in the Self-Opt studio, but a live weather forecast is done in the main Look North studio, at 6.58 and 7.58am

As I understand it weather at Breakfast works like this :

The long 4'30' Breakfast bulletins - of which there are two each morning - in most nations and regions contain a recorded weather forecast. This started with the Breakfast relaunch, as the new longer bulletin allowed more scope for a proper regional forecast.

All the English regions (except Leeds, and I'm not sure about Tunbridge Wells) and one Nation, Cardiff, play a pre-recorded weather bulletin, presented by the News 24 overnight weather presenter. These recordings are made in the National Weather studio and then played out to all the regions early in the morning (around 0430,0500 ish) when the Breakfast teams are in. The News 24 overnight weather people really earn their money - I think they must be doing 10 or 11 separate forecasts back to back?

I believe that Leeds have their own weather presenter during Breakfast so don't need a bulletin from London (which is why, I think, Cardiff gets one!) I expect the Leeds weather is pre-recorded in the Leeds studio early in the morning. (If Leeds are still self-opting breakfast I would expect a live weather CSO would be a bit much for Peter... That said the Hull sub opt may have changed the way Leeds do Breakfast. (They could have stopped self-opting? Not sure)

I don't know what Belfast and Glasgow do for weather during the long breakfast regional opts.

However, for the other four shorter regional opts in Breakfast, I think most regions revert to a weather graphic still voiced by the news presenter - it maybe Belfast and Glasgow also use this method for the longer brekky opts.

It turns out, there wasn't a presenter doing the LOOK NORTH weather during Breakfast this morning.

Peter Levy just read it, using a load of static captions.

He then had even more time to fill at the end, than usually. (If Breakfast bulletins ever go on DSAT, that is something to watch out for)

Paul Hudson returns tommorow, which means Lisa Gallagher will return to Breakfast bulletins tommorow.

I think the forecasts are usually done live, as there is usually a slight bit of banter across from Peter to Lisa.
Also, when Charlotte Doney presented on Friday 28th December, you could hear the button press in and out of the weather forecast
