Though I with they'd bring back The Krypton Factor, certainately the best ITV Game show ever.

Indeed, and I'm sure it would be quite cheap to make. All you need is some questions, some blocks to fit together, a bit of a short story and to hire a flight simulator and an asault course!
In the current *realistic* line up of ITV i'd say it could fit quite nicely Sunday at 6.30

Until they start putting Emmerdale on for an hour on a Sunday of course.

I'm glad I don't watch soaps, but how do people cope with watching every episode in the week?
It's just plain barmy!

I wouldn't mind ITV showing all of the soaps if they tried with something else or let ITV2 try something else.

Yes the Krypton Factor was great, I wish ITV would show more variety in the 7pm slot, I like Emmerdale but 6 nights a week is overkill. Reducing the number of episodes is unlikely to happen though

It's a shame that they can't come up with a solution like five to have a soap hour so that 5 emmerdale's and corrie's go on air at 7 & 7:30 monday to friday.

They would never though as it would mean that viewers would turn to BBC One for Eastenders at 8 and may not turn back.

I suppose the only solutions would be to either have them at 8 & 8:30, or at 7 and 8:30 5 days a week, so that even if viewers turn over at 7:30, they'd turn back at 8:30 and be there for the drama at 9.

Or as I would prefer is for them to keep ITV1 as it is and put alternative programming such as cheap quizzes, remakes, and a celebrity news programme etc on ITV2 from 7. Surely though if they remade programmes like The Krypton Factor, they could air them say on the monday on ITV2 and repeat them on ITV1 on a sunday early evening.

But what they need to do is to get more programmes that are on ITV2 and only on ITV2 (and not all Judge Judy, and Sally Jessy Raphael, and whilst I'm ranting 10 films that are constantly repeated!!!).

It's a waste of time repeating ITV1 programming all of the time as when everybody goes digital and have access to ITV1 & 2 they won't want to watch everything again, and that is ITV3's job anyway, they need to start to create programmes that people will tune into the channel for.

Um if ITV think game shows are a bit tacky (goodness tack on ITV1!) why are they wasting money on ITV4 the all new all singing all dancing Gaming Channel?

Because it will most probably end up being like the 9 Live/Quiz TV/Nation 217 services offering quizzes for money, therefore maing revenue for the channel.

I hope the channel isn't made up of this for 24 hours a day, I prefer the daytime/lifestyle angle that was originally mentioned myself.

If the Krypton Factor was brought back, I think it would most likely be "A Granada Manchester Production for [B][B][C]".

What happened to Blockbusters? I haven't seen it since 1993.

I think the last couple of series'/serieses (HELP! Where did I put 'Eats, Shoots and Leaves'?) were used by some ITV regions as 'fillers' as late as 1996 (YTV/Tyne Tees showed it about 6.30pm then I think). But it disappeared mid-series without a trace, if I remember rightly.

Now - I would love to see Lennie Bennett's 'Punchlines' repeated on Challenge TV! Very Happy

I'm glad people are bringing ITV game shows up - I mentioned it last week in the ITV 50th Anniversary forum, but only one person really responded to it.

IMO, game shows are actually a highlight for ITV's history - it is one of the only areas where they completely outdo the BBC. All those classic game shows from the 80s and 90s that were about fun and actually trying to help people to win - not embarrass them or give them a good chance of leaving with absoutely nothing. Yes they were tacky, but they didn't take themselves too seriously.

The best nine were (in alphabetical order)

- Blockbusters
- Bullseye
- Catchphrase (Roy Walker era)
- Family Fortunes (Les Dennis era)
- The Krypton Factor
- Play Your Cards Right
- The Price Is Right
- Strike It Lucky / Strike It Rich
- Wheel Of Fortune (Nicky Campbell / John Leslie eras)

Looking at that list, how can anyone not agree that ITV completely rocked when it came to gameshows? Plus, the majority of these gameshows had prime-time slots - slots which are now taken up with either soaps or crime.

And who can forget the wonderful line of 9:25am gameshows?

- Chain Letters
- Keynotes
- Runway
- Win, Lose Or Draw

IMO, the only competition for ITV comes from the two Channel 4 masterpieces
- Countdown, and The Crystal Maze.

SO THERE YOU HAVE IT!!!!! (and don't anybody dare disagree!!)

The best gameshow ever was Treasure Hunt with Aneka Rice.

As I suggested here: ITV Primetime schedule - needs revamping? a soap hour could easily be done, but obviously the response of it's rivals need to be considered.

You would expect the BBC to move EastEnders to 8pm - but now is the time for ITV to be agressive in scheduling against the soap considering the vulnerable position it is in. It would also allow more variety in the primetime schedule, such as an hour of sitcoms and even a Monday night quiz show - sandwiched in between Corrie when the football moves it from Tuesday nights!

I'd also suggest launching this schedule with something like the Pop Idol auditions or heats stripped across the week - or I'm a Celebrity in an earlier 8pm slot!

Another schedule I've suggested later in that thread sees bigger changes, with news at 5.30 and 8.30, Emmerdale at 6.30 and Corrie at 8pm, leaving an hour of primetime at 7pm for shows such as quizzes.

Yes - that was awesome too (although not the best ever - that title may just have to go to The Krypton Factor).

I suppose I was talking more about the best nine 'traditional format' gameshows.

If we're going to go further, I would also include Knightmare.
