why not bring back the blue and yellow asa...
Hmmm. Who knows! The original address was go.to/uktv or www.uktv.ic24.net or www.uk-television.co.uk from late January 2000 but they don't come up with anything.

I've been interested in television prez for as long as I can remember (!). When I lived in Hong Kong, I always noticed when the stations there got a new ident. And since news was always big in Hong Kong (handover and all that), I would constantly watch the news programs as well. And I actually have a friend in Hong Kong who's also equally interested in TV prez too! Just last summer when I was there we hummed the new TVB and ATV jingles together...

As for finding the British sites... I first discovered TV Ark thru a Hong Kong site around March 2000 (or was it 1999? I already forgot...). I vividly remember viewing the open titles to London Tonight on the site. And from there I found RTR, TV Room, and UKTV (which is now of course this site). And I still vaguely remember the old UKTV layout, with the animated GIF of the BBC, ITV, C4, C5 and Meridian logos at the top right corner (or was it?).

Before I found these sites, I never quite knew what to call 'those station ID things that they play before programmmes.'

Blimey! I honestly didn't know that it did! I thought I'd kept an old version up there but had hidden it behind a non-linked splash screen. Hum!

I've been interested in TV pres. since I was about 3 or 4. I remember being able to use the video at this age, and I used to tape the idents off 'Lifestyle' on satellite. I also loved the Sky News theme from about 1989-1991. Little things used to fascinate me like why Sky News was on TV-am and why ITV Schools was on Channel 4. And why Blockbusters was on at a different time in Blackpool (oh for those regional days:( ) and why their channel 3 was called Granada and not Scottish.

Then when the Sky multi-channel package came out in '93 I loved listening to all the different jingles and seeing their graphics. I'd wake my mum up at 6.00am to watch pages from Ceefax and 4-Tel On View. So cool! Smile TV-am changed to GMTV and I wondered why GMTV had loads of different adverts to the rest of ITV and didn't end until *after* a commercial break.

As I took trips around the UK i took note of all the different idents (IIRC I have been to the Grampian, Scottish, Ulster, Border, Granada, TSW, Central and Thames/LWT regions)

BBC1 changed their logo and globe and BBC2 stopped showing a clock Sad (unless you count at closedowns but I did not stay up like a naughty boy) STV also gave up their clock about this time. All channels were 24-hr. ITV and C4 stopped cross-promoting each other. (When was the exact date for this? , or did ITV stop promoting C4 before C4 stopped promoting ITV?) I was becoming disillusioned with TV pres and that is when I went into the libraries internet and typed in 'TV nostalgia'. I got matches for MHP and Andrew Wiseman's 625 room. From there I found links to other sites including the TV forum (when it was one with SOTCAA I think) Until then i *honestly* thought I was the only person in the world interested in this stuff.

I can see most people here had a video recorder for a very long time. I have only had one since 1997!http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/shocked.gif

I taped some CBBC stuff in May of that year, and 2 years later I found '2' idents like Baloon and Garden on that tape! Sadly, like most of my tapes after a year it's broken Sad

However I do have some stuff from the 23rd December 1998-C4 Break bumper,BBC Two 'Silk' ident,BBC Two Xmas trailer bumpers (If only I had recorded the day after...Smile ) the end of a festive London Tonight,Carlton Weather, festive Next caption, early ITV2 trailer-the last I saw of this tape was packed at the bottom of a sticky old box. Is there any way I can make tapes so they are un-recordable over?

The side of the tape you see when a video is going into the VCR has a tab in the left corner. Take this off with a screwdriver:)

Ive done this to all my videos ever since my mum taped over a video I made of Idents, Test Cards and Pages From Ceefax when it was still great with a crap film. That really upset me, especially asI payed for the blank tape I recorded them on. I got her back by taping over the film which equally upset her. Shes wiped many of my other tapes as well. Its annoying. Im upset that I lost the classic Pages from Ceefax now. The only pages from Ceefax I have on video is from 1999 after it went crap.

My mum had taped 'The Last Train' an ITV2 drama, and at the end of that tape was a brilliant News 24 Flags era mistake and examples of ITV2s short lived IVC. I thought 'Well, lucky those bits weren't taped over!' And a year later, they were:(
