Did anyone see that item a few years ago on a programme called How Do They Do That? They had an item about how the first generation 2 idents were made - it was really interesting.
Yeah, that (along with the episode of the blue BBC Newsroom and how they changed the back panels) were the only and favourite episodes of HDTDT that I can remember!
I got interested when I saw the old flags up to the hour on News 24 with the big CRASH dah dum di dah dum didalidalo bit.

I first got interested in TV presentation when I stumbled across BBC News on PBS. I guess it was four years ago when, in the evening, they simulcasted an edition of the overnight BBC News. It was still during the 'flags era' and I fell in love with the music, graphics, and, above all, the integrity of the news (I've been a news junkie for about five or six years). I first found TV presentation online from the TV Room, then TV Home - or actually UK Television! BTW does anyone have any screencaps from UK Television's reign? I'm curious as how that looked - can't really remember.

Stay tuned next weekend - it's TV Home (and UKTV's) birthday and so I've managed to dig out some old backups and got screenshots from there. It also includes the very first look of UKTV for anyone interested!

I've only had the internet since 22nd August 2001 (a very special date) and October was the month I got interested in idents. Before this I kind of liked the weather, graphics etc. but television idents, well, I never really noticed them! So it's 2 months!!! WOW! LOL! http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I have always been intrested in logos/channel identity's since 5 or 6, I would notice them and always comment on a change. My first memories are the BBC 1 virtual globe and the original '2s' like Neon & Firecracker. I also remember the TVS Logo from 1991 where it used to spin to form the text. I was always a TV fanatic and we got SKY in 1993, I always loved the UK GOLD DOG idents in 1993 and I have them on tape cos I used to tape the children's programs on UK GOLD back then. Like others I though I was the only one who would be intrigued by channel logos and earlier this year I did a search for old SKY idents cos I missed them so much. The first TV sites I found were TV:50 & TV-ARK, I was facinated. From then on I've been hooked on channel identity and tape channels now sometimes only for an ident or any form of presentation, today I regret old tapes being thrown away, I still have a lot but I used to have a lot more early 90s stuff so that really ****
es me off. I discovered the forum in Ocftober and signed up almost straight away, I visit almost everyday and I fit this all into my young social life!http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/cheesy.gif

I've always been interested in station identity, starting when I was about 4 or 5 (about 1978), and I too thought I was the only one for a very long time. It was only when PC Format ran a piece on Andrew Wiseman's site in around 1996 that I discovered a whole community of anoraks like me
I must say though that I never really had much interest in the BBC because it didn't have much variety (ITV had 15 different idents to choose from pre-1988 ), and didn't have in-vision announcers (which I also had a fascination with from a very early age) and I've lost interest in ITV somewhat post 1999.

Wheres the confusion come from? TV Homes birthday, TV Homes screenshots[albeit of UKTV!).
I have always been interested in presentation, always remembering these changes. I can remember knowing the COW very well and being sad when it changed, but liking the laserdisc ident. I always noticed changes and sort of logged then in my mind. I always used to look for new idents and astons etc. on Sky Sports when I went to the pub to watch matches. I can also remember the BBC 2 peice on HDTDT and all the other changes. Idents and Astons are my first interest but TV News Pres has also secured a place there.
At the end of 1999 I found TV World but only really noticed the Big Breakfast content, then at the start of 2000 I searched for some TV themes and came across TV Ark, and was dissapointed because I really wanted mp3's not videos, I had a look at it and several other sites, UK TV was probably one of the ones and I thought peolple were mad, and it was a strange obsession, but didn't for some reason link that with my liking of TV presentation. Then in June/July 2000 I found UKTV again, and had a look round, and since about September 2000, have been a regular vistor to TV Home(as it was by then), and increasing numbers of trips to The TV Room and TV Ark.
Since march i've gone from being a once a week saturday visitor to a daily visitor of TV Home, although I suppose my actual visits to TV Home have returned to normal (although now when I get an e-mail update) now the forum is semi seperate.
Ah well thats my little story and the base of it is similar to so many others, maybe its some sort of genetic thing? Oh what a happy little group we are, maybe thats another idea for ProfileXtra (maybe get Lambie Nairn into sort that out!) we could have a few set descriptions to be displayed next our posts like ' Ident Fan' or 'News Fan' or something like that?
When I was a little kid (some 20 or so years ago), I used to look forward to going on holiday (in the caravan somewhere is dear old Blighty) , to see what logos etc they had. Mom thought I was mad. Dad blamed the water. http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/shocked.gif
Still, I picked my Uni so I could live in TVS (even if it was only for 3 months). Sad eh? The other was that I could still get Anglia for Shortland Street. Even sadder???
