It seems DFS have turned a corner, using that anoying song for their infamous January Sales advert
At one time, it used to be that man walking around sofas, whatever happened to him.

Plus they no longer say 'Carcroft, Brigg, Thorpe Arch, Hull and Bradford' or whatever places were shown in your region

And by the way, It isn't just Carlton who remove regional names, DFS used to be called 'Northern Upholstry' in the North, and The Dining Room Centre is now called DFS Dining Room Centre!

Who goes to buy a new sofa, at 9am on Boxing Day anyway? Who has £599 to spare? Someone must?http://web.ukonline.co.uk/tv.home/forum/emoticons/biggrin.gif

I live in Jersey. Channel TV has a very bad habit of using Meridian adverts on an inconsistent basis (other times we are subjected to some very naff locally produced work). Meridian is fine if it is for a national product, but shops liek DFS don't exist in the Channel Islands. Our nearest branch is 100 miles away in Hampshire!

On a seperate point though, it seems that this group only has two of us watching Channel TV. It would do the rest of you good to sit and listen to the local news programmes and information services we have to put up with. Its a big problem of a small geographical area trying to support a Regional TV company. Very little newsworthy actually happens here!

Personally, I think Channel Islands Television does well, presentation-wise for the area it covers. OK, the adverts might be of slightly dodgy quality, and not quite up to the standard of the big business ones, but hey, it's a good little station. I've seen it a couple of times and it's a really decent outfit. Be proud of it!

I'm annoyed they don't say their regional branch names though. This helped me in the beginning to realise what the size of the region was. I used to try and find these places on a road atlas once they'd been said. But not any more.

BRING BACK THE BRANCH NAMES!

don't mistake me - I think the presenters and producers of Channel TV try very hard and do come out with a professional product. The problem lies with having to do a 30-minute local news programme five days a week. Some of the local stories that have to be reported on to make enough content for the programme would be regarded as comical in other ITV regions.

I caught a late night junction on Channel the other week which had the final 'Meridian' advert (I kept flicking back to analogue Meridian to see where they 'opted out') and they went to black just prior to the last Meridian advert and a VT clock appeared for a little while (I was quite far away so just managed to see an 'ITV1' logo) which stayed on for a few seconds before another/the trailer started and they went into Meridian's programme late.

(By the way, anyone see Urban Gothic on C5 last night!? - I was flicking channels and caught a blown up C5 ident - blue one, not Christmas - on there and an announcer appeared saying 'That's the first time that's happened...' before going to the snow effect, then to a webcam type thing of people running about the place, then back to the C5 ident, then after a while, a white/silver background and caption with 'We will try and resume the programme as soon as possible' appeared before going back into the programme. Quickly realised it was all part of the programme but I did wonder when the announcer appeared!)

Cheers, Asa

ah yes - the VT clock! Quite a regular performer in Channel Land. Can often be seen for up to 2 minutes at a time!! Smile

Oh, so Carcroft's somewhere oooop North, then is it?

I'd often wondered, as it's always the one referred to in the ads down south, as NOT having the cheap prices, as the legally required comparison branch.

Obviously very posh people in Carcroft then, if they can afford £899 for the sofa that every other branch sells for £299! Wink

On the other tack that this thread seems to have picked up, I reckon Channel TV do an EXCELLENT job considering the size of their operation.

I'd LOVE to work on a station regularly reporting on two 'parliaments', about the size of the average parish council which a mainland station would totally ignore.

And while chatting to the voice of LWT on Sunday evening between the links, I now understand that the clean feed to Channel IS confirmed for the reasonably near future, so  the days of the Meridian ads in the islands are numbered.

I'm not sure where this rumour about Meridian and Anglia presentation going to Leeds started from. As far as I've heard, there's ABSOLUTELY NO truth in it, and the Southampton (and Cardiff) centres are continuing.

I certainly didn't intend to give that impression in the post above, only that the clean feed to Channel TV is confirmed.

No, it's just that Christmas-time is an easy time to con the Smiths and Joneses of this world to give their credit card one last battering this year.

They'll all be regretting it over the next 6 months. Then, in the latter 6 months, it'll be the holiday they're paying off.

I'm totally fed up with these adverts!!

Apart from DFs, did all regions get loads of others too?

We had Land of Leather, SCS, Furniture World or something, Leather World, Furniture Village and probably more! All of them had local stores on apart from DFS.
