This may sound strange but I noticed today whilst watching Today with Des and Mel, that Des had his 'box' in front of his seat (normally on the desk) while interviewing Girls Aloud. It made me think, what is it actually for? and why doesn't Mel have one? Is it a prompter? Confused

I believe it is a prompter, isn't it? Seem to recall hearing something like that before!

Yup, it was auto cue and I thought it was in between them both wasn't it?

Today it was but they normally have an autocue each.

Indeed they do, it's very unprofessional, you'd have thought they could use the day to read up on the guests, and just take a few notes.

The only reason I knew that it was an autocue was because they put one onto Paul O Grady's desk when his show started and he hated it, and never used it or any of the questions provided, good on him!

Don't you have to be sober to read an autocue?

(he says, carefully wording the question not to imply reference to any particular individual)

It helps, although sometimes, drink is the only way that some regional news presenters cope with the cut-throat world of breaking news from across the regions.

Sheep trapped in snow or Cycle-lane extended - WHICH SHOULD IT BE FOR THE LEAD STORY?! Shocked

You're right. It really does look unprofessional. I'm up late doing an essay, and just saw the repeat. It's hardly a subtle, hidden box...

Caught you looking!

They could be excused though. They were frantically trying to find something interesting to ask Girls Aloud at the time.
