I was in the audience to Today With Des and Mel once in London (think it was either at Pinewood or London Studios, can't remember which) and during a break Des came into the audience and had a wander round the rows. At one point I had Des's crotch right in my face as he had a joke with an older lady behind me. Without flinching he said to me before going back to the set, "Bet you loved the whiff of creosote from down there!" and then he carried on as normal as the start of part jingle played the audience erupted into laughter.

He was a kind and gentle man and enjoyed what he did. He will be sadly missed. Can imagine him up above now playing the Yes/No game with Him Upstairs to get him through the Pearly Gates!

Teddington when run by Pinewood? When it was made by Carlton it came from Teddington. Always thought the set was so much better at Teddington.

Countdown paid tribute by means of a slide at the end of today’s episode.

I can’t help but think with Des’s passing, there simply isn’t many of the old style of all round entertainers left now. There’s not many people who were able to stay relevant throughout several decades, and certainly Des was a good example of that.
DE88 and London Lite gave kudos

I think it started off at Teddington, it certainly finished at The London Studios.

I do know Des O'Connor Tonight was always filmed at Teddington Studios in their Studio 1. An historic studio, which has now been demolished I believe.

Teddington Studios was completely demolished a few years ago. This video shows drone footage of the near complete demolition.

(Complete with the theme from Magpie after about 40 seconds in.)

I was referring to the programme he made with Mel.
