There are press reports that Carol is the natural host to take over. Hmm, I think she'd tire of hosting it very quickly to be honest. She should remain where she is.

...Carol Vorderman, Noel Edmonds and Des O'Connor are being tipped as the new Countdown hosts....other names could include Jo Brand, Eamonn Holmes, Angus Deayton, Trevor McDonald, Terry Wogan, Jim Bowen, Paul O'Grady and Michael Barrymore... I can see now, where this show, is ending up... in the trash can...why don't they just have celeb guests each week on, until a replacement is found... the best contender is actually Carol Vorderman out of everyone....!

Several names on that list have no chance whatsoever. Noel doing Countdown would mean either giving up DOND or presenting both - not very likely! Eamonn Holmes is unlikely to commit to a schedule like Countdown's now that he's busy trying to crack the USA, and what joker imagined Trevor McDonald would be in any way suited to the show?

Tell you who'd be good...

When you think about who RW was, he was a cheesy local news person, and as such fitted Countdown perfectly.

...so Nick Owen would be perfect!

there should have used Richard for the DVD and kept that board game

Now stop.

Pause.

Think about it...

Can you think of a reason why Richard might not be able to record material for the DVD?

I heard on the radio that Carol isnt going to take over - so we can cross her off the list of potential new presenters.

IMO the show wouldnt work with carol as main host anyway, the show needs a strong male host, im glad Des has gone he never seemed to click with carol. Hovever i dont envy him(or anyone) trying to replace Richard.

Actually, if we could somehow get rid of Carol, that would be great.

No, she's taken over far too much already.

Doubt it. Apprently she is happy to carry on for quite some time yet!

Annoying as Carol sometimes is, I can't imagine who could replace her! I think that would be the end of C'down if she quit too.

Jim Bowen presenting C'down ?! He was always on the verge of a nervous-breakdown presenting Bullseye (admittedly a part of that programme's appeal)-- can't imagine him on C'down!

Paul O'Grady said he wouldn't ever do it, because he said he would be "bored stiff" and that he is "too thick" to do a show like that! Besides, he is having too much of a good time on his show-- live at five on four Wink

Nick Owen might not be a bad idea, he has the intelligence and quirkiness required. Depends how much he wants to give up news-presenting or how much travelling he wants to. Call me daft, but I could see Duncan Wood doing a good job Confused , only has to cross the road too!

Des was OK at the job, but he never had that 'sparkle' to me. I don't think we should can the programme, it's one of the few popular intelligent quiz shows left-- still has a cult-following! What would they replace it with, some cruddy lifestyle show?
