I presume the Countdown episodes now airing were filmed after Des made his announcement he's going to quit. Despite the fact Des and Carol mentioned it was October 31st and Halloween and all that, they made absolutely no mention of the fact that today marks the first (and only) anniversary since Des' debut as host. They knew damn well when he arrived on the show, because they celebrated him being on the show a month and I think six months.

If he was staying I'm sure they'd mention it. They normally make special announcements like that, and it is quite an special milestone to be announced if you ask me.
