He didn't get the gig and instead got an even more popular show with Deal Or No Deal. I've said it before but his renaissance would never have happened with Countdown, the show is just crap.

Will Deal or No Deal still be around in 24 years time ?

Indeed. Deal or No Deal is a good gameshow but it does not have Countdown's longevity. I must admit that I'm tiring a little of DOND already, after just a year. Whilst I haven't been an avid Countdown viewer, I have seen a fair few episodes over the years and it is clearly very popular. The format is tried and tested and it is an intelligent show - not just people opening boxes by random selection.

I'm in no doubt that Countdown will outlast Deal or No Deal (even if C4 axed it, with the current state of daytime TV I'm sure ITV would screen it themselves).

I still think though the 45-minute format is too long and it was better structured at 30-minutes - and it be the perfect opportunity to return to the "classic" Countdown format.

30 minutes was better I agree. Yes there is nothing stopping ITV screening the show should C4 ever axe it as its made by ITV Yorkshire

Tell you who'd be good...

When you think about who RW was, he was a cheesy local news person, and as such fitted Countdown perfectly.

...so Nick Owen would be perfect!

Peter Levy, surely. Yorkshire-based, too.

I'm no betting expert, but I'm looking at www.betfair.com at the moment and from what I can work out - Gyles Brandreth is now the favourate with better odds than Eamonn Holmes. I only wish I'd put money on him the other day - bugger!

According to today's Sun, DJ Christian O' Connell has been asked to audition for the job of Countdown host. Confused

Please no !! Even Gyles or Eamonn would be far better than him! Duncan Wood yes. Laughing Confused He has done national programming on GMTV. Would we really want el Levy in the Countdown chair Shocked

I think a complete newcomer might be the answer really, preferbly from the Yorkshire area.

Gyles Brandreth - absolutely not!

Richard Digence I could cope with, though it be weird having a new "Richard and Carol" partnership.

My local bookies have got the odds displayed in the window for the potential presenters of Countdown. Yes, in the window! Couldn't help but laugh.
