I do think this program was excellent last night. It was interesting to watch the selection process. I also thought the way he chose which one from the final 5 was good, but I'm sure he's had in mind who he wanted for a while now.

The bit where he picked up the gun for the first time, fired it and then chucked it down just as quick was quite exciting to watch. In the back of my mind, I knew he would do it, but I did have the finger on the remote just incase he shot himself I would have turned over. Someone being killed live on TV is too much for me to watch.

Well done to him for pulling it off. More interesting than sitting in a box!

It appears it was a complete con, which is a shame really because I was completely fooled.

It's a bit disappointing really - Derren Brown is known for *not* faking stuff in his shows, so why bother doing something that he would have to fake?

I now assume since the bullet hits were rigged, all the rounds were actually blanks (with painted plastic "bullets" on the end) and the barrel was plugged and the gases vented from the side (opposite the camera) to avoid killing him.

edit: On the Sun it says:

Quote:
Why did nobody independently check the gun to make sure it was not possible to see, feel or hear which chamber the bullet was in?

James checked the gun — he was the eyes and ears of the audience.

Yes, like he's a firearms expert! I would like to know whether he checked the barrel or not.

He's a cheeky lad, that Derren Brown. So I take it that "firearms expert" was nothing of the sort, then?

If this is true, I suppose it was one big "illusion" perpetrated on the public rather than a test of the accuracy of his psychological powers. Can't help feeling *slightly* cheated, though...
