A lot of controversy has surrounded this show, both in the papers and magazines and they say the programme should not be screened cos everybody will go out and do it themselves Rolling Eyes .

The article in the Daily Mail the other day was saying that people will only watch cos they will want to see if death really occurs. It is a pretty nasty thing to see on the television and I know everyone is blasting Channel 4 for airing the programme...but Channel 4 always leads the way with controversial subjects and has got away with it in the past...so thumbs up Channel 4 from me for being a bit different from all the other terrestrial television channels and also putting in on on Sunday night, where normally we are subjected to friendly friendly programmes like Heartbeat etc etc..

But what I wanted to know is:-

If Derren Brown does actually kill himself tomorrow night, what will Channel 4 do??? Will they just fade the programme to a Channel 4 logo and say something like "Well...ahem...that wasn't supposed to happen...." or what??? Confused:

I will be interested to know! Any sensible ideas would be welcome!!! Laughing

There will actually be a delay of a few seconds so it will not be live. If he shoots himself you won't see it...channel four have a prepared explanation if they have to drop the "live link"

Um, considering he's an illusionist and the whole thing is a trick, I really don't think there's any more chance of him dying than of someone dying live on, say, Blue Peter.

I wonder whether there will actually be a fake cutaway anyway to make it look like he's killed himself, two minutes of a channel 4 caption and music, then back to the live feed to reveal that he's alive and well? Some of us do remember that Paul Daniels halloween show...

Please Blow your brains out! That and David Blaine starving himself will rid the word of 2 nutters.

I don't see why C4 are bothering to show this if they know that they'd have to cut away if he does happen to blow his brains out. The reason people watch is to see if he dies, and if they know that there's absolutely no chance they'll see it, they won't watch.

So yeah, I don't think there's even the smallest chance he'll kill himself, or Channel 4 wouldn't have gone to all this effort.

Hahahahahahaha Very Happy

Also, what are the newspapers on about? If you legally own a gun in the UK then surey you must know that this is a severe don't-do... and let's face it - if you own one illegally then you deserve what you get anyway Razz

I've met Derren Brown in the past (before he was famous) as he used to know my mate Wez when he was in Bristol, and I know that he's clever enough not to get himself killed. This is about illusions, so expect there to be some way that he will know what's going on inside that gun.

On the radio, he said it'll just fade to black before you see anything if anything goes wrong. That mock caption is really funny btw. Laughing

He'll be fine. He knows what he's doing. Did you see the end of his series on Channel 4 a few months back, when he was in the darkened hangar and had to find his way around an obstacle course type thing while listening to directions from some Army bloke? Every time the bloke lied to him he twigged it. Unless that was a gigantic fix, of course...

I agree, he wouldn't do it if he wasn't 100% sure that he'd be safe, and Channel 4 wouldn't televise it unless they knew the same. I'll be watching, but I know that he's not going to die - I just want to know how he's going to do it!

He's 100 times better than bloody Blaine, anyway.

That is very good!!! Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

And if there is no chance he is going to kill himself, well what is the point of the programme then???

It is like putting at the beginning of WWTBAM, a caption saying:-

"Noone is going to win the million pounds this week. The highest is £8000 and that is won 25 minutes into the show...the rest of the show is boring...carry on watching if you want..." Rolling Eyes

Anyway, I'll still be watching anyway, but it'l be good if they show something like that above!!! Laughing Laughing

One word - publicity
And it's already paid off for him.

He knows what he is doing - there is no way he would go ahead with it if he or any of his production team thought that he would die through doing this trick.

It isn't the first time that something like this has been done, it (or something similar) has been done a few times on TV before.

Of course he might go down the Paul Daniels route and make out as though he has died and then pop back on screen an hour later to say 'ha ha, I'm still alive'
